You got away with it then because you had won naff all for many years. You now have a fanbase who expect success.

That's how it go's.
We don't want to get hammered every week
We just want to win now and again
We just want to have a good cup run
We just want to play well each week
We want to be in with a shout of a trophy
We just want to win a trophy
WE WANT EVERYTHING!!!!!!
TBF you guys are towards the end of that list now. Play the game the right way, look capable of mounting an assault on a trophy, who knows!

Sinfield became successful through being the most professional, hardest training, most driven and committed player Leeds have had. I'm not sure there is such thing as natural ability, in Sinfield's case. He wasn't that big, strong or fast.

As a junior he was considered the most gifted player of his and many other age groups. Every major club wanted to sign him he was that good as a junior.
You don't get to play in the first team at 16 if you don't have a huge amount of natural ability - that is all you have at that age

People down play Sinfield's natural ability because he didn't have a devastating running game, but he was still more skill full both kicking and passing than 90% NRL halves at least.
People forget the 30 yard passes and pinpoint kicks because he is best remember for his leadership and crutch goalkicking.

I agree. Though again I don't necessarily think that was his natural ability.
I'm not a huge believer in natural ability, not to the extent some suggest anyway. I think it exists but there's a huge amount of other factors that go into the mix too. Any natural ability has to be nurtured and encouraged either actively or by chance. There's a decent amount of luck involved etc etc
In terms of Sinfield I think his "natural ability" was his attitude. That drove him to improve his passing etc and it showed in his maturity at a young age.
I agree on his passing and kicking too. England is crying out for a Kevin Sinfield right now. If he'd been in the England team we'd be in the 4 Nations final now I have no doubt.

| Is this the same Sinfield who was very ordinary at international level?
Who cost us the semi final of the World Cup with two huge errors - failing to find touch with a kick followed very soon after by sprinting out of the defensive line allowing Johnson an easy jink, skip and run to an open tryline for the winning score?
His exemplary SL career never translated on to the international stage because there's a huge gap in intensity and playing standards between the two.
England would still be out of the 4N with him in charge.

You are correct in the fact that the gap between Australia and England is big, and was particularly big around the time Sinfield was in his prime. As a Half playing behind a beaten pack on most occasions and far inferior back line to work with, it is always going to be difficult for a player with the skill set of Sinfield to make an impression on games. He is not a maverick who can come up with a wow play from nowhere no matter the game situation like Johnson for NZ.
We all laud the likes of Thurston, Cronk, Lockyer, Johns etc..etc.. and rightly so, they are great players but when their pack is living up to it's billing every time and setting the platform and they have a conveyor belt of superb ATG back options to use it makes things a hell of a lot easier! Put Sinfield in those teams and we would have seen the view of him change imo.
Sinfield wasn't outstanding at international level on the whole, but held his own in a time when we were very poor as a team and The rare occasions we did match up Sinfield was at the fore, the 2009 and 2011 four nations for example where we beat the kiwis to get to both finals he was MOM. and for me, he was very good during the 2013 WC despite you being hyper critical about the end when many other things could be picked out for England's demise in that last few minutes, you forgot to mention he was one of Englands best before that in that very game...the great ball to put Watkins in and the pass to Burgess over the top?

It's because he never played in the snow, in front of 700 fans in Swinton on a Wednesday night.
Winter rugby by plenty.
Guffaw ETC.

Playing behind a beaten pack on most occasions?
But England's pack is the equal, if not the best pack in the world surely?
Anyway, i agree on one thing here, back on topic i didn't realise this was the stadium redevelopment thread...as you were

Just for s and giggles I looked up Sycophants in the opposite dictionary. I got
"blaming, censuring, critical, denouncing, disparaging, insulting, reproachful, unflattering"
Now who is that a good discription of? Give me a minute, it'll come to me
