Used to know his daughter a while back, no nothing about his rugby career though'"
My God thats a name from the past... Dave was very much in the Big Roy Dickinson mould IIRC
IIRC as well he was signed from the Leeds Intermediates (U19s)
Calvin Wilkes also springs to mind as a very obscure signing as well for around that era
also Paul Pickup...... a relative of Fred IIRC

Something similar happend to Phillis Ford's brother, Steve Ford ...He came up from Welsh RU and played a game on the wing.
Leeds said no, but by then his name was well known as to who he really was.
Played a couple of games on trial for Salfard ... Including one AGAINST Leeds.
IIRC, given that he had quite a decent Cardiff RU career after turning out for Leeds, he was one of the first RL players to be allowed back in to Union.

I remember the game Steve Ford played for Leeds - had a pretty good game if I remember rightly? Would have been a pretty decent signing. He went on to play quite a bit for Cardiff - I often saw him on tv when BBC showed Welsh RU matches.

All Had a sniff of the first team, usually in the floodlit trophey etc, then came Neil Lean, Maurice Lucas.......
A lot of these 'fringe players' support the ex- players association and still turn out at dinners etc.

No disgrace in being a "fringe" player they are the base that holds up the whole club so they could be described as the "strongest" players as well.
I never made it past the U19 Intermediates for Leeds so arent elegible to attend the ex players...pros only.

Anyone can attend as guests etc, its next week.
I know a few ex A teamers and plenty of them could have played elsewhere, but preferd to stay for the pleasure of playing for Leeds at headingley, and get the odd game alongside their mates in the first team.
No contracts then Just 15 equal win or loose paypackets on the table.

Wouldn't call Kuiti and Heugh obscure. Two of the better forwards we had in the arly 90's.
Remember Kuiti's debut against Bradford. Scored 2 tries one of which came after a ball steal from Paul Harkin. I think Heugh also scored on his debut v Hull on New Years day in 1990?
I think
