A dog is for Christmas!: |

| He's been daft and he's dropped unlucky.
Good luck to him in his rehabilitation and I hope he can return from it.

An attitude of "we know you do it because you've told us so we'll try not to select you when you might fail a test" ???
If true then it would it be so surprising if other clubs had a simliar attitude too ?'"
You see, that's the concern. If it's going on, it needs weeding out. The odd player will always misbehave and screw things up, but there seems to be a feeling that there is more to this problem than that. If it's a cultural problem, something needs to be done, even if that means losing some high profile players from the game.

when one of the lads told us of an ex team mate, that when previously informed he would have to provide a sample, the player smuggled a sample of his wife's urine into the test room, emptied it into his sample tube and returned it.
although he got a clear result the RFL were pleased to inform him he was 3 months pregnant.'"

how many players do you think do it/have done it at some point?? I would be interested to know how many of these random tests are done each year. I imagine the odds of doping any substance and gettign away with it would be pretty good.
Wasn't too long ago the Hudds player failed a dope test. Only real way to to weed it out is for RFL to make ALL clubs force regular tests on its players(queue employment can of worms). Even then would the clubs deal with results internally??
btw Read in todays metro that UK is coke capital of the world with more users than anywhere.

| Why part of my original post was deleted I am unsure. I didn't say anything that could get anybody into trouble. Just suggested that certain coaches should look at their disciplinary measures.
When clubs are actively teaching their players how to clense/flush their systems to stop being detected, we have a problem.
The RFL should step in and force more testing at club level. Not only would this help erradicate the problem, it would also give the sport some great PR.
The problem is, they know how many players would be caught out, and unfortunately this would include some of the 'pin-up' and 'model proffesionals'. So maybe they should give 6 months notice to the clubs. Maybe state that from next season there will tests done on a weekly basis.

Yes, I think the Clubs are going to have to take a long hard look at themselves. I personally would like to see random spot checks within the Club, backed up with a mandatory weekly one.
I don't buy this "he's dropped unlucky" crap either. He's a drug user who's been caught by a pretty lax set of drug testing standards, which merely highlights what a muppet he is.
Hopefully he'll get the support and treatment for his drug problem, but I'm not too bothered as to seeing him on a rugby field again.

| I do not personally or morally condone his actions but Gareth Hock himself has dropped unlucky with him being selected in the random test. It could have happened to a number of different players. Maybe even a Rhino or two??
Footballers, Movie stars, musicians (recorder players renowned for it), Rugby league and Union players accross both sides of the pond. It's a culture that I am not naive enough to think doesn't exist.
Ryan Bailey and Keith Senior came close with ephedrine.
Ryan Hudson, Sean Penkywhatiscalled, Keiron Cunningham etc... all spring to mind at the senior level this side of the pond.
Was Hock at fault? Yes
Was he unlucky that out of everyone that dopes in some way or form he got caught? Yes

Was it ephedrine or pseudoephedrine?
Plus IIRC didn't both players declare to the testers that they had taken cold medication prior to the tests?

It was once legal but now a banned UK substance as of early 2000's. Legal in coutries like Canada though. I'm no expert but I know it's an alkaloid in the same family as caffiene and amphetamine.
Commonly taken by athletes as it aids in energy and weight loss. Boosts the metabolism, increases readily available energy in the blood stream. Also plays about with receptors in nerve cells that gives you the adrenaline fight or flight buzz. I know loads of guys at the amateur level who use it. It can also be used as a decongestant in some older brands of medication but most use something else.

| Andy - Cocaine is also an alkaloid stimulant not too dis similar for Ephidrine. Then again so is caffeine if you look at like that.
