Hopefully with a new(ish) face coming in the existing squad will know that he'll be prepared to make tough decisions and that they'll need to fight for their places in the squad. It would be nice to see that translate into defensive effort tomorrow.

Yeah I get that, but the timing of the annoucment would be very foolish of the club if his appointment was based on us staying in superleage, you would think the club would wait until superleague status was guarenteed (or not) before an annoucment, if that was a stipulation in him coming. |

Thinking the same, the players must no know that the new coach will be deciding who he rates and does not over the next few games, some big performances needed. |

We will be in super league easily think some people are over estimating the strength of the teams in this comp. plus league yslikely tobe increased to 14 next year anyway. |

Nothing certain on either front though, unless the clubs have got an idea of how the votes going to go nxt week. While I agree we should have enough to stay up, regardless of what happens with the structure of the league, i think some people are over estimating the squad we'v got left fit and the poor/inexpeirienced coaching staff we'v got leading them. There was no pressing need to announce this now, I could be wrong, but i dont think the club would risk pontential further ridicule by announceing this now, unless he was 100% coming regardless. |

Dave Furner added, “First of all, it is fantastic to be heading back to a club where I have so many fantastic memories from my playing days.
Well once he found out he didn’t get the Wigan job.
Saying that I think he’s a decent signing but for his sake I hope he got a solid promise that there will be funds available for new players.

Announcing this now, puts a line in the sand for the players, they need to up their performance and impress the new coach. |
