I don't think you can say they beat Hull though. They beat themselves.'"
Wigan had an easy run to the final, no doubt about that, not a single top 6 club.
But their performance in the final was impressive and to me showed they are going to be difficult to topple in the playoffs.
'what, are you crazy?'
Let me explain. The way they played the conditions, right from the first few minutes they had good grubber kicks, forced repeat sets and really smothered hull as much as possible early on. In those heavy wet conditions it takes alot of juice out of you defending and coming off your own line, and the errors from hull resulted. Of course hull didn't help themselves, but wigan curtailed their natural more attacking game to play a specific way. It looked like a sh*t game but most other teams in the league would have lost because of how disciplined. and smothering wigan were. Matty smith deservedly won MoM because his kicking game....it was like sinfield grand final 101. Hull were constantly coming off their own line even when they did complete.
They set out specifically for a slow, slow grind and you got a sense at the end with the tomkins try and reaction the amount of effort it took to execute it almost perfectly.
If they add some polish to their attacking plays, which were understandably off in those conditions, they will win the grand final.
