| Quote BrisbaneRhino="BrisbaneRhino"No its not. Bluey is one of the two or three most successful Leeds coaches of all time. This year has been disappointing but not bad by any means. Suggesting that we should look to dump him now is a nonsense.
I've been one of the strongest defenders of Tony Smith's reputation on these Boards, and used comparisons made by fans with Bluey to highlight the double-standards being used when comparing the two. I will now hope to just as strongly defend Bluey from the same cr*p.
Rumours of unrest are just that, and if we win things, I couldn't care less if the team despise the coach, as with Smith.'"
The reason i asked this is not just because of the rumours of unrest(which carry weight btw).
It's just as much about the style of play we have now ,the failed 2 hooker system ,and the level of performance that has declined this year.
Now like i posted earlier i'd keep him but looking at the votes there are those that want rid and i know many are unhappy with the way we play more than the fact we did'nt win anything.
I sarted this thread to gauge opinion not for a WITCH HUNT and imo it's a valid question.

| Every season Leeds fail to win anything there is some rumour or other about unrest behind the scenes. I imagine there is no smoke without fire but most organisations have some level of disquiet amongst the ranks, why should a RL club be different?
I would keep him for his contract, but any further extensions should be based on performance and whether he is able to acheive realistic goals set in advance of next season. Doubt he'll stay after next season anyway with Brian Mac coming in.
For me Smith and McClennan are about level as Leeds coaches. Each has his particular strengths and weaknesses, neither is the complete coach. Both were good appointments by GH. Brian Mac certainly has a hard act to follow, irrespective of how we do next season.

| He should stay. He has been one of the most sucessful coaches we have had. 1 season without a trophy does not warrant the sack. How stupid would that be, with only 2 major trophies to play for.
Its been a tough year. Players out of form, players injured, other teams getting better. We need to learn from mistakes this year, make some changes and come back stronger next season

| No point sacking him now IMO. Very soon we will need a coach who can look at the playing squad dispassionately. However, given the players' contractual situations that cannot happen right now.

| Don't sack him now, that would be silly given his success over the last couple of years, but do give him some specific instruction on introducing a more structured style of play rather than the off the cuff we have played previously.

Would'nt that be the same as just sacking him?
I mean if he's kept on surely then instructing him how we should play and be structured is the same as replacing him?

| If Brian McDermott has been promised the job for 2012 (and it's reasonably unlikely he'd have taken the position without that assurance) then Coach McClennan may as well leave now.
All the retention and recruitment decisions taken during 2011 will be by Hetherington in consultation with McDermott anyway.
I don't see McDermott as being the subservient type now that he has tasted the head coaching role so probably best to just get on with it.

He never was the subservient type, hence why him and Smith broke up the partnership.

Was'nt that more to do with Quinns wanting him as their head coach?

Smith has never struck me as someone who can accept anyone's views except his own.

Not really. I have to give various members of staff who work for me specific instructions about things I want them to do differently, but I don't sack them.
