I take your point...but are not both Gleeson and Gidley right centres (thus leaving them to Keith !! ) ?? As I said 'short-term'.
...and Ablett's main strength is hardly his tackling ability one on one against quality centres ...he's too easily wrongfooted.

I don't blame Ablett, but at least twice he was given space on the right wing against Salford and twice anybody with a modicum of pace would have had much more chance of making something of it.'"
although ablett is a 2nd row i dont think he has done a bad job at centre but cannot play there much longer

| Quote nantwichexile="nantwichexile"Three good players...but in the short term would we not be better going [size=150LF - Ablett; SO - Sinfield ...and R.CENTRE - McGuire.[/size.
Feel sorry for Ablett continuously being played in the position he is not clearly up to. Sinfield can organise at SO and McGuire can inject some much needed pace out wide.
I like Hall but he too is too slow for a winger...let's get back Smithy back on right wing asap...and Donald on the left. PLEASE.
I agree. Certainly worth a try. You cannot say McGuire is not a until he has had a go. IMO he has all the qualities to make a bigger impact than at 6. Sin is better cover for SO than we have for RC.

| I remember posts like this after we got beaten away at St Helens in the play offs.
I vote for Peacock to centre, Bailey on the wing and Lee Smith to prop, he's big enough you know.

To be treated with the contempt it deserves. So you really think Ablett is worth playing at centre...again ...and again....and again ? He's not a centre. McGuire could be...at least in the short term as I keep stating.

| We shouldn't be in the position where we are considering playing a Gb/England SO in the centre position!

Where do I start...
He doesn't run up with the ball with any real effort i.e runs but then stops when about to be tackled
He doesn't wrap them up quick enough when tackling
He's too slow to be playing out in the centre's
He doesn't have great ball-handling skills
He's not aggresive enough to be a second-row
He doesn't look to communicate with other players

I totally agree....but for the sake of the team if it works in the short term then let's try it.
Ablett has stuck his neck out and played out of position time after time for the sake of the team, at the risk of losing his personal credibility.

How do you know he isn't a centre.
He defends there in the defensive line. He can put a man through a gap. He has good feet. He has pace.
I am not saying with confidence he would make it there. But I would neither say with confidence that he wouldn't, without seeing him there first.

| Its a good idea as McGuire did play a bit at centre for us in his early days, but he would just get pushed to side far too often.
I agree that its useless having Ablett at centre, he is only there as a blockade for opposition attacks, and even then with a bit of footwork he is easily evaded.

| Ablett has proven that in the second row he can cause the most damage to a team. He looks most comfortable there, and IMO it is his strongest position. But he fills at loose and mainly at right centre. Does he moan about it? No. Does he get on with things and tries his best? Yes. I know Ellis is in a different league to him, but jusr remember last season when he was moaning about having to play loose a lot. We haven't heard any of this from Ablett. He has struggled at centre, but it is not his specailised position and seems to give his all.
