Come on Chris you know full well Agar has said many times that we had a replacement lined up & had numerous options we were talking to.
Granted im sure he said it may not be the same position as Merrin but a replacement was promised.
The Martin passport thing came later once again big starements re-recruitment have been made & not carried out.
Of course Rhys Evans was a must its not like we have young lads who deserve a shot over a 27yr old has been with "experience".

I think what they were to do was acknowledge exactly the point you've made which would have been a perfectly sensible response rather than categorically stating they wouldn't release him unless a replacement was lined up, fail to complete the deal and then let him go anyway making themselves look a bit foolish. There was no reason for them to say that and noone would have argued if they hadn't. Because they chose to say that they now look daft because as things stand we're starting the season weeks later without a replacement in place
