Leeds all time great, in a time when World Class is banded about like confetti, I can safely say that in his case the phrase World Class didn't do him justice - he was considerably better than that.

One of those "once in a generation" players, to stand out in the team that he played in when he was 18 you had to be good, and the thing is, he stayed that good until the season he stopped playing first grade.

How do you know a player is good ?

When he bosses the game and nobody really sees what it is he's doing.

And his fish and chips weren't that bad either.

What a fantastic player John was, i consider it a privilege to have witnessed not only his 1st team games but also the A team games in which he played in, he is a true Leeds legend and he will be greatly missed

I'll always remember that game away at Saints when he came out of the A team and lead a makeshift team to victory. He just oozed class. RIP John, a true legend.

At what must be a very difficult time for John's family, I hope they can take some small solace in the fact that through his playing career at least, John gave so much happiness to so many.

Agree 100%. The most creative player I've seen in blue and amber and a pleasure to watch.

My all time favourite Leeds player and was lucky enough to see him play from the late 70s right until his final game for the Alliance team.

Very sad news. In my 50 years of supporting Leeds and watching the many stars over this period without doubt John was one of the very best. His vision and passing ability were outstanding and he was an unselfish player who had the rare ability to put his teammates into space and give them the glory.
