| Quote: Him "I’m all for no-one is bigger than the club but it’s not on them to call it a day and the club didn’t “give” them a glorious career.
It’s up to the club to say sorry we can’t find a space for you here as a player anymore and all those 3 players have worked incredibly hard for their careers and gone through sacrifices and physical and mental barriers the likes of us never have to in our jobs.
They’ve benefitted from the club being well run and being successful, but they’ve helped forge that success and the club has benefitted just as much from them as they have from the club.
Both should respect each other but neither should feel beholden to the other.'"
Very good post

| If JJB is entitled to a testimonial next year then I'd have no problem with him being around, so long as its on the basis that he'd be on a pay-for-play plus low minimum with no guarantee that he'll get picked and announcing that it would be his last season with Leeds. Testimonials are huge for a sport like RL, especially for a player like JJB who probably isn't on big money.
Having said that, won't next year be Delaney's 10th season as well? Would that mean he'd be up for a testimonial at the same time? If so, same deal.
Assuming they both stay, for me it would be on that basis - minimum wage plus appearance money but a clear understanding that they're not in the top 17 and might only play a handful of games if others stay fit.

| Didn't Peacock get one granted and he only played 9 years at Bradford and 9 years at Leeds?

Not sure there’s much money to be made from Rugby AM, I’d like JJB to be given an off field role, he can still do Rugby AM as he does now.

| It’s Watkins testimonial next year so JJB wouldn’t have one next year.

| Testimonial or not Sinfield needs to be ruthless with this situation. We cannot possibly go into next season with the same back row as we currently have.
Ward and Ferres are contracted so will remain at the club but the other 3 need to be gone and younger faster players added to the squad. Cam Smith needs more game time and a couple of new signings need to be added to the group.
JJB, Ablett and Delaney have been superb for the club but there is no room for sentiment here.
Whether Sir Kev has funds available to bring players in we will see in a few weeks time.

| Younger and faster doesn't necessarily mean better. I'd rather get one genuine quality backrower than three numpties.

| Taking it very literal there. I'm sure he meant younger, faster, better.

| Thompson could play well enough to earn a squad spot for next year. He has probably been given that kind of promise anyway by the club. If that enables a more rapid clear out of the old guard then it might not be so bad? It would be if he were first choice every week, but if he's not first 17 and he earns a spot on the field this year I wouldn't be upset if he stayed - ditto Crosby, although he's more likely to be in the top 17.

whats the point of having him around to be a squad second row when weve got players like Smith, Trout and A.Sutcliffe in the back row hopefully coming through

| Whilst those kids may have talent, are they all going to make it? Thats one question. The other issue is that we've seen with young forwards that playing every week is very hard, so maybe the idea is to have some experienced pros around as backup. I'm not suggesting that would be the way to go, I'm like everyone else in trying to work out what the plan is going forward given that we know very little re any other signings for next year.

| The temptation is to play the old and trusted - even if they are not fit rather than risk a young player. That was part of McDermott's downfall. So if JJB is around he will play more often than not especially if he is on a pay by play deal.
