| Quote: gulfcoast_highwayman "If that's the site behind the halls of residence, then it is a hidden gem, especially in Summer when the students have all buggered off. It's nice and quiet, certainly compared to the nearby Woodhouse Moor.
One of the graves is that of the wife of Pablo Fanque, of 'Being For The Benefit Of Mr Kite' fame.'"
Pablo Fanque himself is also buried there

| Never spotted that, or maybe I mixed it up in my memory. I've certainly looked at the grave. I spotted one day when I was cutting through the park.

I remember the old central station on wellington street, especially catching the early morning leeds schools special train to London for the RL final. We then transferred to hired buses to wembly stadium.

The Odeon was on the corner of new Briggate and the Headrow I seem to recall.

Majestic, how could I forget, my dad used to come home complaining every night if they'd had a matinee through the week because thats all he'd ever hear through the walls of the office all afternoon - its why he never went to see The Sound of Music

The clue is in the first two numbers of the year - "19" for instance.
Queen Victoria had been dead for 75 years in 1976 you know
PS - that photo of Raines at the bottom, is it still a Pizza Express now ? 'Twas originally the White Cloth Hall wasn't it, one of the oldest buildings in Leeds City Centre.

| White Cloth Hall not because the building was white (it wasn't) but because the cloth was white - as opposed to coloured cloth which was cheaper and often reconstituted, Leeds had a Coloured Cloth Hall too I believe - all of this rubbish was learned by sitting next to a university history lecturer during our doms sessions every Friday night in the Merry Monk

Nice shot of the greyhound track top left, which New Hunslet played on a decade after that photo.
