| Salford. Obviously the lure of playing every week in a team competing for nothing was greater than 15 games a season in a team competing for trophies.

| How quickly it seems he's forgotten how the club supported him when he spent so long on the sidelines due to illness last year.
Out for 6 months wasn't it?
I agree with AG - surely it's better to play for a team that is likely to win things?
Agents have been responsible for the demise of Calderwood, Lee Smith & Chev Walker to name three off the top of my head.

I don't think he's forgotten anything. Much like we shouldn't forget a guy who didn't let two life threatening injuries - one definitely caused at work - stop him going back to fulfilling his obligations to his employer. He's out of contract, he's every right to do what he wants, morally and legally.

Get a grip. He's fullfilled his contract and is moving on. Nothing wrong with that all and he owes leeds nothing.

| Cannot understand why people attacking the lad, he is young nan who wants to play ever week, possible to get back into the England team, something that will not happen if he is not getting regular first team football. Good luck BJB and thanks for everything you have done.

| Anyone on this board who suggests they wouldn't consider moving jobs if their prospects had been restricted in the way BJB's have, is IMO a liar.
Why should it be any different in his career, more so due to the limited lifespan of said career.

Bingo. And that is the most valid point of all.
He's already had a GF win, he's already had a WCC win. What is better for him, looking back at 32 and finished in the game and saying I won two or three GF's and having X amount, or looking back and saying I have winners medals and I have XXX amount and managed to play each week?
Sinfield made a speech a few years back regarding trophies and money, and too many hold on to that. It was a few years back. I doubt very much that today the same views of players would be held. This is a salary capped sport, and the time playing the game is getting shorter. That salary cap in real terms means that the money earned is less than it was four or five years ago, as the cap hasn't moved enough. The longer it is held at that, the more movement of chasing the £ you will see in players, and they can hardly be blamed for that.

With respect the only people responsible for the demise of calderwood, smith and walker are the aforementioned.

982.jpg [quote:1pqtnbtj]Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.[/quote:1pqtnbtj]

I'm not so sure when you look at how Leeds manage to retain good players in comparison with other clubs.
Plus, when you consider that GH has said that the players keep the prize money they get from finals (which is exempt from the salary cap) that must also factor in when you consider the propensity with which we reach finals.
I'd never blame a player for moving clubs for more money. Like yuo say, it's a career. But in ANY career it's not always the smartest move to up sticks to the employer who pays the biggest wages. There's so many more important things.

I think in the BJB case it's a bit different. It's one thing to be getting less money but reaching and winning finals IF you're in the team. Both Hall & Watkins have mentioned previously that although they were members of previous GF winning squads, they didn't really feel like GF winners themselves until they played in the game itself.
The situation is also different to the likes of the Calderwood, Walker & Smith because they were starters.
Because he's gone to Salford some will say it's just because of money, but if you look at the other main contenders for trophies like Saints and Wigan they didn't really need him. Warrington was a possibility but they're on a slide ATM whilst Salford will climb up eventually.
