Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg

Tomkins is the best player to emerge in GB since Farrell and Sculthorpe. Compare the way he treated the ball behind the line and the way the likes of Webb and Smith did!!. His attacking runs are superb the one in the second half that lead to Charnley's try was stunning.

He doesn't try to milk penalties like he used to and hold on to the tackler's arm etc. There's still some niggle to game, but fair enough, he'll take a lot more than he'll get. There's no doubting how exciting a runner he is and he's improved his defensive fullback play but he'd still be exploitable at that if he wasn't in a dominant team.

We'll see exactly how good he is when he goes to the NRL. He'll be a level behind Slater, who's beyond ridiculous as an attacking threat and knows his positioning and try-stopping better, but I think he'd still be outstanding.

There isn't a player in the NRL that isn't a level behind Slater, the finest FB of the modern era.

Yes. It isn't in any way an insult to Sam Tomkins to say he isn't as good as Billy Slater.

At this stage I think he would find it difficult in the NRL and would be found out. Lets face it the likes of Wellens and on last nights performance Webb would even make Richie Mathers look like a world beater. He needs to match up with the best before you can call him a great player, not some of the mediocre that's dotted about in the super league.

Dropkick Murphy..we actually saw and heard a mass of bouncing and scarf and flag waving to Dale Cavese that drowned out anything we could muster.. It stopped us singing our own celebratory songs, it died out seconds later when we accepted we couldn't be heard over the Wigan lot Celebrations muted from us, job done from them. Most fans who slag them off are jealous their own club's support is nowhere near that good - sally cinnamon..Why not discuss Wigan? It's a rugby league message board. Wigan are the most famous brand in rugby league - Tre Cool..Saints fans are hopeless unless it's a cup final or grand final. Wigan fans are so much more loyal and passionate - the flying biscuit..Wires havent been massively succesful over the years, but I've spoke to Brian Bevan And he spoke to me and i wouldnt swap that for Wigans History, ever - Ande..on the TV i could only hear the Wigan fans with about 10 to go - Saint94..Every team is in your feckin shadow, we all know - FIOS:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_39110.jpg

Slater is 28 years old, he is in the prime of his career. He plays in a better team which is even better coached than Wigan are. He has played 17 times for Queensland and 17 times for Aus. He has played at the highest level throughout his career.

Tomkins is still only 23 and has very little experience compared to slater. Slater wasn't this good when he was 23.

Tomkins is the second best FB in the world right now, he has the potential to be the best in 5 years time.

I would love to see Tomkins save some try-scoring opportunities like Slater does.

We may never find out if he is "world class" week in week out in the nrl but he is without a doubt a cut above anything in this hemisphere

It's impossible to compare the two when they play in massively different competitions at any age.

Tomkins is an outstanding player & generally tore us to shreds last night.
If he was in a Leeds shirt we'd all be worshipping him in the way the Wigan fans do.
However, he was shown up twice failing to deal with the only 2 decent high bombs that Sinfield put up all night.
In the NRL he would be peppered with these as is Billy Slater who on occasions is also pretty poor at dealing with them.
He will also suffer this when playing for England in the next 4 nations tournament.
We'll also discove that the Aussies generally are umpteen times better at tackling than the Rhinos were last night.

Was Hanley better than Lewis? Was Andy Greg better than Langer? Was Offiah better than Jason Robinson? Is Roby better than Cam Smith? To ask if Tomkins is better than Slater can never be answered!!! Both players are devestating attacking runners that can do things others players cant. Its what makes them both stand out from other players and no matter what defence they come up against they'll always do something special. If Tomkins's tries have come from bad defence, then have Slaters tries also come from bad defence?....surely not cause he plays in th NRL. The reason they play so simular is because the teams they both play for, play to the same structure. Melbourne have been playing the same way ever since they saw the potential in Slater and Wigan are doing exactly the same with Tomkins. When Madge McGuire came to Wigan, Wigan began perfecting the Melbourne structure, ie....forwards running a flat attacking line and running angles, then the halves lieing deep using them as a foil for Tomkins to chime in....exactly like Slater does. Lets just hope McBannana plays to this structure with the England team instead of playing like the old Bradford team of 5 drives and a kick tactics!!

As good as Tomkins is in attack he is dreadful under the bomb.

If he can't resolve this soon then he will have to change position. Not that his lack of ability under the bomb will affect his or his teams ability in the super league.

In the NRL or Internationals he will be found out.
