| Smith does not have the kicking game to be a fullback in Union. Not by a long way, grand final 40/20 aside. So your left with him on the wing. He is Quick but not overly quick as G1 takes great delight in mentioning everytime he doesn't outpace someone .
What he does bring you is excellent footwork and the ability to shrug off a tackle in open field, as well as being excellent in the air most of the time. All attributes that suit his game to RL, I don't think he'd be an International RU player by a long way.
By the same token, Armitage would be average at RL at best IMO.

| I'm lead to believe Danny Care is on 70k from Quins, whether he gets bonuses for internationals or not I don't know. Remember that when he signed the contract aged 19, 70k a year was alot of money.

| BY my reckoning 6 of this Saturday's England team went to state school, 8 to public school (although some on rugby scholarships) and one was educated in NZ.

What would be a good question is; how many of the England Team from last week did not attend a private school?'"
As far as I can tell, and I haven't delved too deeply, of the starting 15, 5 attended state schools. 2 others attended Grammar Schools. Not sure what they count as.

It just happened that that particular bit of tripe was probably accurate.

Certainly not in the 'private sector' otherwise mine would have had no chance attending.
Quote: El Diablo "Q. Bill Beaumont was the greatest British Lions captain of a generation most capped and a Home Nations winner ..played 30 odd times...How many tries did he score in this record career. ????????'"
Is it more or less than Gary Connolly managed to score while playing for Great Britain?
Bill Beaumont's try scoring prowess is hardly indicative of anything much considering wingers rarely crossed in internationals during his time.

Thanks for the "at times" granted though ...cant deny it ....
I blame my advancing years and the recurring damage due to some frequent blows to the head ...mostly thanks to the likes of Jonny Freeman. Serves me right for playing 2 years in the Leeds and District Sunday League.
guess I just got a bit giddy

| Grammar School - depends where is is and whether the LEA has retained Grammar schools or has gone comprehensive. Leeds Grammar School, for instance is public (private). Ermeysted's Grammar School Skipton is state.
