| Quote Gotcha="Gotcha"If the argument is making metres, then as bad as it sounds, Mullalley should be before Singleton. If that is not the case, then Singleton is in for another reason, but like I you, I just can't see what. His constant running the ball in straight to the ruck, easy to tackle, and two or three yards made, is the old McDermott tactic and it doesn't work.'"
Mullally? He gers battered whenever he plays & was easily our "worse" prop last year.
We needed & still need at least 1 barnstorming prop & a wrecking ball BR.

So your agreeing with me. Not sure what the laughing is for. Nobody is saying Mullally is the answer.

Your post says Mullally should be in for Singo if its to make metres no?
He's soft as s#*# & rarely runs his weight.

My comment said, IF Singleton was in to make metres, then you might as well put Mullally in instead. A bit different context to what you read, because you don’t like him.
He makes more metres per carry than Singleton.

| Different props bring different things. Singo brings impact and effort to the defence. His ball carrying is poor though.
Others don't have the impact without the ball but carry better. In the absence of a Peacock, you have to get some balance across the squad.
Overall though, we have no top drawer props and that is a concern

| I'm concerned we've not addressed the issues we had last season.
How many of our forwards can break the line? Merrin isn't that type.
Who's going to take control of the long kicking game?
When are we going to start protecting players under a high ball?
Lolohea seems a good player, Moon was a good player but neither was the organising, tactical kicking play making stand off we badly need.
We all know our props aren't good enough over a long season.
We've made big signings and flashed some cash but are they on the areas and type of players we need? Only time will tell but I have concerns.

We needed a HB - we signed a utility back who's going to play 6 for us even tho his NRL teams never played him there.
We needed a tackle breaking 2nd rower - we signed a solid reliable prop/modern day loose forward. He's a pedigree signing, going to be leader but isn't the type of back rower I believe we needed. We've no forwards other than Ward who can break a tackle.
We needed a centre - we signed a top class powerhouse centre who will replace Ryan Halls metre munching carries.
We still need 1 or 2 props.

I think you need to take the Merrin signing as totally seperate. He was brought here for more than just a signing, or a Marquee one at that. They did need to sort the leadership and direction of the team, and get a grip on it again, and I think he was specific for that as much as the other attributes.
I think with that signing they fully intended to sign a prop which we all crave. I think other circumstances are what has held up that one.
I think you are underestimating Lolohea above. I agree with you on the organising long kicking, which we haven't had since Sinfield left, but I just think you might be underestimating the player.

Agreed, I know friendlies don't mean much in the grand scheme of things, but he has set up quite a few of our tries in those games, I also think Tyler will be better for having him in the team.
I'm sure it will happen but not sure why people are already starting to question signing Merrin, I understand we needed another prop, and that may happen during the season but Merrin is just the sort of player we needed, we have not had a proper leader since Sinfield and Peacock left, Merrin is that player.
We as fans also have to give this team/new structure a bit of time to bed in, but I'm sure there will be post calling for all and sundry to be sacked if we don't get off to a great start.

I'm still not entirely sure we needed Merrin when we have Ward, Ablett, JJB, Smith, Ferres, arguably Cuthbo and Peteru with Trout coming through and Donaldson also added (albeit after Merrin signing).
Hurrell and Tui signings I don't have a problem with, although Tui needs to develop a bit at 6 and McClelland looks a good prospect.
If we need 2 props, and I'm not saying I disagree, then I'd say the entire existing front row with the exception of Oledzski should be on notice. I see both Crosby and Singleton as interchange props really, and we need real size and impact on the other side if we play Cuthbertson, who is a good player when fit but not very direct. Bottom line is that if we get selection/balance right in the front row, we're OK ish. As soon as we get injuries though we're going to struggle IMO. A good pack can make an average backline look good, and the same is true in reverse. If we want to be truly competitive again we need to establish the competition's best pack as a cornerstone.
