Let all the doubters keep doubting and those who believe keep believing. We’re only interested in those in the bubble. Anyone who wants to come in the bubble, you can come in. But you’ve got to keep believing.:86.jpg

Just out of interest, other than the waving arm thingy how does this differ from the existing team warning rules?

"Well, I think in Rugby League if you head butt someone there's normally some repercusions":d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_25511.jpg

Bentham did seem to have forgotten his dangly ones on Friday. A lot has been said about the game on Friday night. Wigan's tackle tactics which seem to be along the lines of "f**k about as much as possible at every PTB - while acting aggrieved about something - then rely on the ref being unwilling to penalise us at every single tackle".
In years past, at this time of the season and a with a different home team, we would have seen 30 penalties in that game.

I think we are seeing (and have been for some years now) some teams working out that refs tend to penalise unusually long PTB's. So if you slow every PTB down then you have to really be blatant to get pinged. There is also the much used by Catalans tactic of moving forward from the mark while playing the ball and putting the markers offside or making them hesitate.

My thoughts exactly.

I didn't actually think that the 'team warning' thing was actually a rule per-se - just a tactic that referees used to address persistent offending whilst retaining their cards as a last resort.

I may be wrong here, but it strikes me that the RFL has taken a very good 'informal' system, tried to 'formalise' it and in the process, made a bit of a hash of it.

It doesn't icon_lol.gif

That's what makes me laugh at fans getting annoyed about it. The same warning as always stands, it's just a way of speeding the game up without having to call the captain over for a 2 minute chat. We are only more aware of the warning being in place now because we can see the signal.

There's no "formalising" of the system, just an indication to the crowd that the team is on a warning.

Previously the sort of thing that would only have been heard by a watching TV audience, it's now apparent to everyone in the ground. Apart from Phil Bentham.

Pleased that you have woken up to the said fact.Wigan are one of the worst culprits in super league along with Huddersfield for slowing the ruck down.

Way to completely misunderstand a post. Even for a Goon that's an impressive lack of comprehension of the English language you have there.

To be fair Harrigan, I am surprised by this post from you. You are correct, technically nothing has changed, but of course it is naive to think that the reality hasn't changed significantly by the introduction of a signal the crowd can now all see. Previously, even when watching on Sky, when the ref called the captain over it was rarely clear to understand if a ref was issuing a formal warning or not. The refs would often say things like 'you need to cut out these off-sides or I might be forced to take further action' but what did that really mean, was it a warning or not? Sometimes it was a very clear warning, but previously if the next penalty came maybe 5 or 10 minutes later, while the crowd might shout for a yellow, he was under less pressure if he felt that the side had indeed tidied up its act sufficiently since the warning because the crowd and even the opposing side, could never be 100% sure why the ref has called the captain over and issued a warning. As we saw on Sunday, Hicks was probably prompted by Sinfield (along with the large Leeds crowd doing their bit and now expecting a card as being inevitable) to send the Cas player to the bin and rather than say to Sinfield, well I think they have tidied things up, he just out the card!

If you look at Ganson on Friday night and the massive difference between HKR's penalty rate and Wakefield penalty rate, which got both sides with players in the bin, then was Wakefield's sin-binning really required? I don't think so, Wakefield were not repeatedly offending to slow down the overall momentum of the game like HKR appeared to be doing earlier when the gave away 4 penalties over just a few minutes. I suspect even Ganson would have let Wakefield carry on previously, but now their was expectation that he should bin a Wakey player irrespective, and Ganson gladly obliged.

Nothing has been technically changed... but I think so far, it clear that it has!

To be fair I would never use Ganson to illustrate a simple refereeing call let alone a complex multi-faceted one.

Already this season he has ordered a drop-out when the ball carrying arm - but crucially not the ball - was grounded in-goal despite there being no tackler in contact. He did however shout 'touchdown.'
