The team would not be any different. Indeed, the way it is now, anyone can declare themselves Scottish/Welsh/Irish and then switch to English when they hit some form.

But the makeup of the team is not what matters. It's the identity.

The other home nations could continue their development in the same way as before, with England (effectively a GB 2nds) competing alongside them.

Sport England funding means it's got to be England. Unless we can find a few million somewhere else.

I thought the whole Sport England funding thing was a myth and that Richard Lewis had categorically denied it had any influence on the switch to England?

Don't Sport England fund GB athletes?

IIRC Sport England funding goes to governing bodies for them to spend on the provision of facilities and coaching rather than in providing funds directly to athletes.
