With the loss of Peacock and Kylie everyone seems to be concerned. Why? With everyone available we could put out two packs that could mix it with the best and also have additional cover.

Mitch Garbutt
Beau Fallon
Cuthbertson
Ambett
Ferries
Stevie Ward

.-------------

Singleton
Burrow
Galloway
Delanney
JJB
Cameron Smith

Mullally

Baldwinson

Also Mitch Garbutt will be massive this year for Leeds, he's add a good pre season and could be a good outside shot for man of steel. Currently not even in the betting with skybet and they have Tompkins favourite at 8/1 lol......so guess Garbutts at least 100/1 as highest quoted is 80/1 .......thoughts ?

Is anyone concerned at the loss of Peacock and Kylie, compared to what we have? can't say I have seen any such posts, and to be honest completely more the opposite way.

The concerns raised have been nothing to do with replacing Peacock and Kylie.

I agree with Gotcha, infact i would say i am not majorly concerned about any area of our squad, perhaps the kicking and game management side we will obviously lose due to Sinfield finishing and will be missed at vital times but we all knew that was going to happen at some point and i don't see a better environment for the likes of Sutcliffe and Lilley to thrive in whilst the transition in that area takes place.I am quietly confident we can do well this year despite losing two greats of the game.

Agree with the above not heard anyone being concerned with the pack. As a squad I personally think it looks stronger than last years.

Don't worry about avoiding temptation. As you grow older, it will avoid you! - Winston Churchill:d7dc4b20b2c2dd7b76ac6eac29d5604e_40515.jpg

My main concern is the loss of an outstanding kicker who made the difference particularly in tight games for so many of our successful seasons. However we now have a side and style that can overcome this problem by scoring more tries than before.

I also had worries regarding the game management and loss of the pack leader, but with the added strength in depth in the forwards and the development of the very talented Lilley and Goulding I think we have good cover for the key positions. This means that we have the talent to rest and rotate when players get injured or lose form and not suffer a big drop in quality.

Can't wait for the season to kick off.

My concerns are our kicking game when penned in deep, which it appears from what looks our starting selection, we have no answer, and leadership under momentum swings. I don't think we have that, and think we will see that falter especially in the super 8's.

But the pack for me on paper, is as good as any pack we have had over the last 20 years.

Nail on head for me. It's whether we can turn things around when its needed. So many of those GF wins have come off the back of losses of form that would have sunk lesser sides. And there's nowt so sure as that we'll need to do that again. Can we? Fuuu knows. But it's a - maybe the - barometer of being the best.

I have only one concern. Hooker. On paper Falloon is a better more experienced player than Aiton, but they never know how over seas players are going to go.

Other than that, we appear to have more depth to our squad than last year and see no reason for us to be there abouts in all comes.

I do expect us to start slow with shirt off arson and WCC. And be 4-5 before split then kick on and go for CC & GF double.

"The Golden Generation finally has its Golden Fleece! They have Wembley Cup Final winners medals to add to their collection." 23/08/2014:

Pack is more than fine especially after the one remaining concern of too many injury prone 2nd rowers were dealt with by the signing of Ferres.

Agree with the poster above who said we'll have to see if Falloon is one of those good or bad NRL signing, which changes the complexion of our season whichever way that answer goes.

The Sinfield one obviously but was always going to happen and at least we have some other options there if Sutcliffe does struggle. Whilst we might not get the same points off goal kicks I can see Sutcliffe getting into double figures for tries (if he stays fit) which Sinfield never really gave us so we get a gain there.

I'm happy with the squad and with the style we're playing. My main concern really is just trying to back up a massive season with another one. We saw how tough it was to do last year and we had the disappointment of 2014 to fire the squad up last preseason as well as a longer preseason. Add to it last year we went under the radar (by our standards) heading into the season and the first several weeks which I think helped whereas all eyes will be on us from the start and everyone willing be wanting to take our scalp even more so than usual because we have that "treble" tag next to our name.

Arguably for those reasons i think it'll be even tougher physically and mentally to go again in all competitions in 2016 especially with a WCC added on this year.

Agree with all that's been said. The good fortune of having Ferres come available filled the one lingering concern of a paucity of second rowers for the start of the campaign.
I had also had some concerns about half back with Sutcliffe still making a recovery; thus depending on McGuire and Burrow staying injury free. (Burrow as starting SH was a concern regardless...most now agree I think he is best utilised as a bench super-sub.) .. However these concerns were prior to the emergence of Lilley, who I think should be starting SH alongside McGuire at least until Sutcliffe is up and running. He has the added bonus of being a very competent goalkicker (as is Burrow I accept) but more importantly already has the confidence to bark out the orders and marshall his troops. He makes some fine intelligent breaks too. In addition to this I can also see Golding fitting in nicely at SO as well as being highly competent cover for Hardaker at FB... Just hope we can do enough to hang onto these two and Handley (who again looks more than capable of being a first team starter).

The pack - on paper - looks better than many a year, but just how much we will miss Peacock's willingness to always be the first to drive it in will have to be seen. Garbutt is looking excellent as his potential 'like for like' replacement if that is ever possible.

As others have aleady said the biggest test will be the cool head game management that Sinfield has subtly provided over the years...along with his ever reliable kicking. McGuire has some big boots to fill.

Whether Leeds can win the treble again is a tough question; but in our favour I see nothing in the opposing teams that makes me particularly coveting of what they have. At the end of the day the success this season will (as always I guess) depend on injuries. BUT this season we appear to have more stength in depth than for many a season. I am optimistic (shock horror! icon_biggrin.gif )

I don't see an issue in general with the pack. Garbutt has looked fantastic in the friendlies so far and Ablett, Delaney, Singleton, Ward and JJB (both when fit) are consistent and quality players. No doubt Cuthbertson will also be looking to build on a fantastic year, though I don't think he can be blamed if he doesn't quite reach the same heights as 2015. The addition of Ferres to the squad has really rounded us out and will give us the ability to set a platform for our extremely talented outside backs to run riot as well as being able to grind out a result if required. Peacock's retirement may be a blessing in disguise as McDermott now has more incentive to rotate our pack both during a game and throughout the season; it also means that opposing teams can't shut us down by targeting one player.

My major worry is in the hooking role. I'm sure we all remember how we struggled by Leeds standards in 2013 and 2014 and I believe it's no coincidence that our fantastic start to 2015 had a lot to do with Aiton being in the form of his life. Beau Falloon is an unknown quantity and if he fits into our free flowing and direct style it could be another very good year to be a Leeds fan. However if he struggles to adapt to Super league or suffers a long term injury we could see a return to the heads down zero flair style of 2014 which will win us plenty of games but will leave us short when the trophies are handed out.

It's quite simple for me;

Pack - easily the best in the comp - as long as Falloon settles (which I'm sure he will), he will bring more to the table than Aiton (who I was a big fan of).

Outside backs - 1 to 5 again easily the best in the comp

Halves - McGuire + Sutcliffe/Lilley/Burrow looks good enough for me and certainly not an area I see many other clubs having better options in.

However, as others have mentioned, Sinfields game management and kicking (both from hand and goal kicking) will clearly be missed.

The big risk for me is any injury to McGuire - I sometimes think people underestimate how important he is to this side. If we were to lose him for any stretch of time, I think we'll lose a hell of a lot of creativity - and additionally, something again I think people overlook, we'd miss him defensively - he's a very important cog on his edge in terms of timing/when to come in, when to shift out etc - it's an area of his game which is vastly underrated by most!!

While I agree with this I reckon it'd be possible to point to a certain player in any team and say the same. It's just one you have to keep fingers crossed doesn't happen. But I do think you've pinpointed the exact player in this Leeds team to which it most applies.
