| I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned on here before now but the club's financial results have recently been lodged at Companies House.
Figures to 31.10.2013 reveal the impact of not reaching either the Challenge Cup nor the Grand Final.
Turnover fell from £10.7m to £10.03m.
Pre-tax profit fell from £691,848 to £406,101.
However average attendances were higher & the club enjoyed record corporate sales.
But the crap weather for the cricket adversely affected Headingley Experience catering income.
Finally, Stadium & pitch maintenance costs were higher than budgeted for.
Still most other superleague clubs wouldn't mind being in our financial position.
Perhaps they need to sack some of their coaching assistants.

| Not bad at all.
Cheers Old Feller, interesting read.
We can't be too disheartened about that.

| I think money bags Moran and co posted a miniscule profit on the back of a CC win and Grand final appearance also.So it makes our financial management look a touch more impressive.

But he's got bottomless pockets & of course they've never breached the salary cap.

| Main highlights/lowlights of the year ended 31 October 2013:
Pre-tax profit is as stated £406k down from £692k on £10.032m of turnover.
The absolute shocker is a Corporation Tax charge of £775k, of which £596k relates to previous years. Obviously HMRC have been crawling over some of the company's transactions and have gone back and had a go at them. £775k, when it comes to be paid, takes a big old chunk out of the cash stashed away for ground improvements.
No wonder cost control has been essential in recent times - total staff costs are down from £4.32m to £3.96m and the average number of admin staff employed was down to 68. Back in 2009 this peaked at 91 so there has been a fair old slimming down of the back office operation.
Rents etc charged to Leeds RUFC for their use of our stadium, training ground, Chief Exec, other director and management time, admin staff, ticket office, shop and admin staff, sports science & physio dept: a very light looking £419k (2012: £434k).
Ongoing inexplicable management charge levied on Leeds RLFC by Leeds RUFC: £111k (previous year £97k).
Highest paid director's remuneration (only two directors get paid through the company, almost certainly GH and Rob Oates so I'll leave it to you to work out who this is): £105k + £32k pension contribution.
Total amounts spent on transfer fees: £40,000
Amount of cash in hand at at 31 October 2013: £1.99m
Amount owed to Leeds RLFC by Leeds RUFC at 31 October 2013: £827k (mostly an interest-free loan to prop up their sagging finances)
Amount owed to Leeds RLFC by Caddick Group at 31 October 2013: £816k
Total spend on developing the stadium/other property in the year which has been capitalised: £739k - this is largely to do with the pitch reconstruction.

| Are any other club's returns available for comparison purposes?
We know that Cas nearly went bust last year bailed out by £800k from Jack Fulton.

I don't get free access to Companies House docs any more so I can't get full details (and can't be d paying for them for other clubs) but Wigan for one are technically insolvent and propped up only by Ian Lenagan's largesse. Unless something has changed dramatically in the past year or so, the same unfortunately applies to the vast majority of other clubs in the league. At least Leeds, St Helens and Warrington have their own stadia to generate extra income streams from.

| I wonder if Phil Clarke has any stats on this to show that Wigan are the best financially?

| I should say that I spent an afternoon at work a couple of years ago doing a comparison of the finances of various clubs for their 2011 financial statements so do have some info. To highlight the strength of Hetherington's club:
Leeds' turnover was more than St Helens and Wigan's combined.
Leeds' cash at bank was more than the rest of the league combined.
Only three clubs had any sort of strong fixed asset base (more than £3m), those three clubs who have invested millions in stadia they own: Leeds, St Helens and Warrington at £19.8m, £30.9m, and £15.1m respectively. Saints and Wire have a lot to be thankful to McManus and Moran for.

And with London, Bradford, Salford & Wakefield all suffering from severe financial problems in recent years and plenty of others either reliant on owners input or being 1 big payment away from disaster, we should be incredibly grateful that whatever happens on the pitch the club is secure off it.
Something which I think is often underestimated/under appreciated by many Leeds fans.

Yeah but he hasn't signed a superstar prop to replace Peacock or made McDermott get an assistant or hired a coach who'll get rid of all the proven old timers and replace them with unproven youngsters who are overhyped in their age group, so........Hetherington out!!!
