Just heard on radio leeds about a complaint about huddersfield town fans shouting anti semetic chants, and the club investigating the complaint. This sort of thing is getting quite a high profile in football right now.I dont have to name names, but the places where Leeds rl have played over the years and have this kind of thing shouted from the terraces I wonder if action will be taken if it happens this coming season?

If it is isolated individuals, I would expect them to be dealt with appropriately as and when identified. That wouldn't strike me as all that newsworthy.

I think recent issues in football have involved chanting from relatively large sections of crowds at some matches. That is obviously a larger and more complicated issue to deal with.

I've been most shocked by the return of "monkey" gestures in UK stadia recently. I thought this would have died out in the 80s. I presume it never left football grounds (which I don't much visit), which was more than a little disappointing. Perhaps had I been to more football matches I wouldn't have been shocked. I'm therefore glad I never go to football matches.

I remember at Leigh a couple years ago they were chanting "you're just a town full of bombers" but in recent years that's about as bad as I've heard in a Rugby ground.

Those sHudds fans pop up whenever we play them at their gaff, they won't be seen again until next we meet at their gaff. Hopefully never.

Didn't it happen at Warrington as well? I seem to remember it provoking some outcry on here.

The only people I've ever referred to Leeds as "Lids" on this forum have been some Huddersfield fans.

After a game at Wheldon Road we had to wait in their club for one of our party after the match. The DJ announced over the tannoy 'Don't worry about the rest of the season, at least we've beaten the Yids!' to much chortling from the locals.

'twas well publicised at the time and the club apologised, it was their supporters bar wasn't it ?

The gormless and imbecile find it easy to tag themselves onto most sporting clubs and frankly you'll never get rid of them, what I found heartening about Cas in recent years is that the non gormless and non-imbecile in their following are always at pains to apologise and to try and identify the culprits - which is how it should be in rugby.

To be honest they have nothing to apologise to me for, I am not personally offended by their remarks, just amazed that they think I will be, if calling me Jewish is their idea of a gross insult then you have to wonder at the breadth of their imagination.

Yep. It always makes me laugh that these type of "insults" assume that everyone who follows a sports club is from the immediate area of that sports club.
Being from York, which shall we say hasn't always been too welcoming to Jews, the accusation that I'm a Jew is somewhat perplexing.

The only times I've suffered any sort of racial abuse were both coincidentally from Hull fans. The first was when I was young and walking the ought the South Stand. Some of their fans were in and called me a . I was that young I asked a friend why someone called me a wok. Then the next time was at the Boulevard and after the game a group of men starting shouting all sorts to me and my dad. I was only about 16 at the time. I wrote to their club to complain and the response was pathetic to say the least. All they said was that no one had ever complained about their fans before and they offered me a free ticket to go back. As if I was going to take that up.

Anyway, that was years ago. But let's not be deluded that there isn't still things going on. Such as Leeds fans singing 'I'd rather be a p**i than a Bull'. Thankfully it is in the minority and I hope it stays that way.

I look forward to brining my son to games when he gets older without fear of abuse, or hearing any sort of bigotry.

Indeed. We have our own set of nobs at games who go for the aggro and beer rather than the game itself.

Amen.

The Leeds chant you refer to was, at one stage, accompanied by a home made banner.

There haven't actually been many times I've felt embarrassed as a Leeds fan, but that was certainly one of them.

Most of the rest of them were in Perpignan, and stemmed from the general inability of large portions of the British population to go to foreign countries without behaving like complete morons.
