Number of kiwi players are friendly with Andy Wilson, and make appearances in the comp at JCCS. The legendary Dave Topliss used to dazzle all with his skills too.

The Lost Loiners put a team in down there the other year. There was a "veterans" team that had Topliss and John Joyner in it who were a pleasure to be around. There was also a team of kids from Hunslet's scholarship IIRC who were the exact opposite.

I've not seen a scholarship side up there, I'm not sure they'd be allowed to enter as a scholarship. Parkside and warriors used to enter teams with some interesting characters though! Topliss passed away in 2008 I think so I guess I remember playing against him in 06-07, still an unbeatable eye for the game and deceptive in his mid 50s.

I think it might have been some young lads from Parkside or Warriors you're thinking of Andy. Was that the time I was provoked into defending myself by throwing a punch then persuading the young ref to send of the other lad who had totally lost it?

You're right about Topliss and Joyner's team. They were class and humility who had every reason to act like the dogs boswollox but didn't.

I'm playing in the JCCS touch rugby this year. The Kiwi's are a real pleasure to play both with and against, not seen Chase but Willie Poching and Motu Tony are usually there along with Mrs Hauraki and Lauititi and Solomona
