| After watching todays origin, it got me thinking, why did we stop playing the battle of the roses? Its good gor the international game (better than the exciles as you have 34 English players than 17), provides an intense test, and its like a trial for the international side. Think about the teams we could have:
Lancashire
1. Tomkins
2. Charnley
3. Watkins
4. Goulding
5. Riley
6. Sinfeild
7. Lomax
8. Graham / Hill / Mossop
9. Roby
10. Morley
11. Tickle
12. Hock
13. O'Loughlin
14. Brown
15. Prescott
16. Cooper
17. Farrell
Yorkshire
1. Eden
2. Briscoe
3. Reed / Atkins / Shenton / Welham
4. Hardaker
5. Hall
6. Widdop / Chase / McGuire
7. Brough
8. Peacock
9. McIlorum
10. Burgess / Carvell
11. Ellis / Buchanan
12. Westwood
13. Wilkin
14. Burrow / Robinson
15. Crabtree
16. Patrick
17. Ablett
With players who aren't from Yorkshire and Lancashire like LMS, Mossop, Henderson, Chase, Heighton ect.... they would have to choose a side like Uate did, ect..... Players in Australia would probabley have to miss out, like Australian players in England miss out on Origin in Australia
I think I'd rather watch a match like this than an Exciles game......... increases rivarly, competition for England places, I'd think more people would want to watch it, what do you think?

| We tried this concept years ago but it failed because Lancashire were disinterested and are soft.

| Now we have the mid-season 2 game exciles series, I don't see why we couldn't go back to Origin. There'd surely be more interest than in Exiles

| Is that the "Roses Origin" idea some years back that Tonie Carroll was interviewed before the game on sky telling cameras it was a great idea and he was eagerly anticipating the kick off................then headed to the Sky Rack to play pool with Brett Mullins and didn't even watch the game???
Poorly supported and the likes Peacock wouldnt be happy with even more games!!!

| I think 1 Roses Origin and 1 Exiles match instead of the 2 Exiles matches would be better. Wasn't one of the problems with them Roses matches from a few years back that they were midweek games (wednesday for one i believe?) not the best night for it.

Weekend Games, Flashy Promos and a Desire to beat them over the Hill.
What more could you ask for?
Plus extra Revenue from Merch like Shirts and Stickers Blah Blah.
I would be all for it tbh.

| It would help break the monotomy of the season up along with the Exiles game, throw something in there mid season thats just a change from the norm of waiting for another round of regular season league fixtures to come along at the weekend. Leave it as 1 off games though, don't jump into trying to play 2 or 3 game series like the Aussies can.

| Still doubt it would get any support......now if you were to suggest a North of England versus Southern Softies competition that would entice me in.

| The county origin game would turn into little more than a trial match for the England team.

| ..a trial game has actually the point of the exercise.
Having said that, the problem has been that the county games have always been low intensity, with as swiftcorn said, Lancs generally being rubbish for whatever reason. Cumbria was always the county that could be guaranteed to show effort - sadly they don't have the quality of players to compete with even a half-interested Yorks/Lancs.
The only way you could seriously use the county games is if the England coach clearly stated that whoever plays best in each position - regardless of reputation - would get picked. That's what Australia have done sometimes in the past - sometimes to the detriment of the national team.

| Was actually fortunate to be at the game at Etihad stadium last night (melbourne, not manchester!). Tells a story that no-one recognised my blue and white Yorkshire roses shirt from that ill-fated series a few years back. They didn't really give it chance in my opinion. At least there'd be the potential for a bit of a rivalry and some big interest. Frankly, who gives a RA about the exiles concept?

| I'd be up for it. Nantwich is right in one respect (noooooooo!) the major pull would be north Vs south. Shouldn't be long to wait..... Bugger.
What about Yorkshire Vs every other county? Cumbria, lancs with a few londoners? Only stipulation is they need to be able to represent GB/England.

| I don't think a "North Vs South" Origin match would work.
Talent from the South anyone??
Origin of the Roses with a big build up and some Education for those Young People who might not have a clue about the War of the Roses.
I think it could be a success, if we as fans make it a success.
