It was nice to see, but of more interest to me was the fact that 14/15 of the 17 had played in our academy. There's something very pleasing about seeing academy players in the first team.
But yes, I think you have definitely had an all british team before. Thinks Hudds may have done too? And Quins?

Wasn't it vs. Quins?!
And what doesn't seem to get mentioned is...
a) They were assured of 3rd place and resting many. It's not as if their first choice 17 is English.
b) They didn't exactly breeze past Quins. The report I saw had Quins very much in the picture. Including [i"But Quins were certainly good value for their advantage as the sides went in at the break.[/i"
c) Most clubs U20s are made up of Englishmen.
If we were assured a spot and playing a meaningless match against a poor side, we could easily line up as:
BJB
Hardaker
Watkins
Smith
Hall
McGuire
Burrow
Bailey
McShane
Peacock
JJB
Ablett
Sinfield
Kirke
Pitts
Clarkson
Singleton
And that's not including Amor, Ambler, Senior, Hood, Elliot, Casey, Coady & Stewart.
If they were to name an all English, Grand Final side, that beats Warrington or Wigan. I'll be impressed. Until then.... Meh.

| We had 17 british players in a match at Warrington, can't recall the year. Stevo made a big thing of it on Sky.

Yes, that must be highly satisfying and obviously a great credit to Mike Rush and all the work he does in that area.

Leeds did do this (only not with that quantity of their own Academy produced players) in an away fixture at Wilderspool, May '99. Leeds won 28-10 and the team they fielded was:
Iestyn Harris
Leroy Rivett, Marvin Golden, Francis Cummins, Paul Sterling
Daryl Powell, Ryan Sheridan
Darren Fleary, Terry Newton, Barrie McDermott
Kevin Sinfield, Anthony Farrell, Andy Hay
Subs:
Marcus St Hilaire, Lee Jackson, Adrian Morley, David Wrench
IIRC Coach Murray had returned to Australia on compassionate grounds and the 1st grade assistant coach who took charge for the game was Damien McGrath born and bred in West Yorkshire.

Who is now Huddersfield's version of Barrie Mac. (Head of Youth something or other!)

That it is. One of the most pleasing things about our recent Grand Final successes, for me at least, was that, if memory serves, every Leeds point in the 2004, 2008 and 2009 Grand Finals was (if memory serves, which it may not... I recall Diskin, McGuire and Sinfield scoring the points in 2004, Smith, Hall, McGuire and Sinfield in 2008 and Diskin, Smith, Sinfield and Burrow in 2009) scored by Leeds academy products. How many SL champions can say that all their GF points have been scored by products of the academy? I think it's just us and possibly Wigan in 1998?

On a similar note.... That means that all 4 of our Harry Sunderland Trophy winners are Leeds academy products.
2004 - Diskin
2007 - Burrow
2008 - Smith
2009 - Sinfield
AND... our "recent" Lance Tood Trophy winners too...
1999 - Rivett
2005 - Sinfield
So basically, Since 1999, every major individual award that a Leeds player has won, has been won by an academy product.
You could even throw in the two Golden Boot awards for Hall (2009) & Calderwood (2005) too if you wanted.

What you adding stuff to my post for?!
Surely if I'd edited it, for example if I'd realised I'd reverted back to "British" players rather than academy products, it would say so?!

| I quite like the look of the Leeds all British side put on here, not bad. In fact it gets rid of some deadwood.
