Hi all,

Im a 32 year old bloke from the North East of England who has become disillusioned with his first love of football. Ive been watching Rugby League on Sky now for a number of years and ive become more and more impressed with the competitiveness, speed, passion and sportsmanship of it. I really now want to experience a live SuperLeague match and The Rhinos are my nearest club. I work out of York quite a bit so im planning on trying to attend the Rhinos v Harlequins game on Friday 25th Feb. I will be attending on my own as all of my mates are only interested in Football or Rugby Union. I just want any advice for someone attending there first SuperLeague game.

Do I need to buy a ticket before the day of the game?
Wheres the best place in the stadium to watch the action from?
Best place to go for a pint before the game?
Best place to stay if im going to stay over?
etc.....

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Cheers.

you can pay on the door mate for that one. there are loads of pubs in headingly centre which is 5 minutes walk.
sit or stand where you like. great views from the carnegie seats or stand at the side or behind either posts. not sure about where to stay though

Stay at Headingley Lodge.

That way you won't have to pay to gain admission to the game.

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg

That's a good idea pay £40 to watch a game that any normal person would pay £18 d040.gif

It's not how much talent you've got, it's what you do with it that counts.:1157.jpg

The Skyrac or Original Oak will be full of Leeds fans before the game and are only 5 mins walk to the ground. There are loads of places to eat around there also.

Hi mate...

Firstly, welcome. You'll be hooked!

For the Quins game you'll be fine to purchase the ticket on the day of the game, the club charge a £1.50 booking fee to purchase tickets on a credit/debit card over the phone (which I'm assuming you'd have to do to purchase before hand!) so if I were you I'd just pay cash on the night.

Where to stand is personal preference. If I were you I'd go for the South Stand [£20] (or to give it it's full title... "The Infamous South Stand!" but you shouldn't let that put you off!), this is also where you'd be amongst all the atmosphere and singing and such like. I would imagine that, whilst we'll still generate quite a bit of noise, the Quins game won't quite be up to our usual decibel level so it won't be as "intimidating" and a good starting place for your first game. You'd also be stood up, so you might want to take that into consideration, and be down the side (length) of the pitch. I'm sure others will give you why they think their stand is the best, but my opinion is South Stand. Cheapest, Good View, Good Atmosphere. Won't be too busy for the Quins game either.

Pint... I can't help you with. Firstly, I'm teetotal. Secondly, I don't go anywhere before the game.

Staying over... there's loads of B&B's in Headingley. All of which are walkable to the ground. Never stayed in any of them so I can't recommend them I'm afraid. There's also a hotel called "Headingley Lodge" which is actually on the site of the ground. I've stayed there before and it was top notch, although I didn't pay for it so I don't know how much it is. If you're wanting something a bit more familiar, there's a "Roomzzz Leeds City West" hotel easily walkable to the stadium. Also a Premier Inn on the Headingley side of the city centre which has parking (walkable at a push but I bet it's a good couple of miles and I'm lazy!!).

Any other advice...

1) Wrap up warmer than you think. It might be "just coat weather" all day, but you're stood still for a couple of hours, and as it gets later, it gets colder. Just judge what you think is right, then put another layer on as well!

2) We park on Talbot View (Google Maps it, there's a whole estate with no parking restriction on). It's about 5 minute walk from the ground but it stops you queuing in the ground traffic after the match. Unless you decide to stay over. Your hotel might have a parking spot. Just my personal recommendation but DO NOT use the grounds parking (unless you're staying at the hotel in the ground) it will add at least 30 minutes to your exit time.

Quins is normally one of our lower attended matches, but this particular time it's the first home game of the season so it might throw a bit of a curve ball in terms of attendance.

I'm sure you'll love it!!

Please try and keep up.

Many thanks for all this info mate. Will come in very handy. Understand what you mean about the wrap up warm bit. Ive been quite involved with non league football over the years so ive stood on many a terrace in the freezing cold on a winters night.

If its half as good as watching it on the tele im sure I will love it!!

Thanks again mate

I was keeping up with you mate, just checked and unfortunately looks all booked up for the 25th Feb. But in future if I can get a room and entrance to the game for £40 sounds like a bargain.

Cheers.

No worries fella... hope you enjoy the game and your stay over.

Sorry... it's Roomzzz Headingley that's the one you'd want! Not Leeds City West!

It's tons better than it is on TV, and if you have Sky+ you'll have the best of both worlds! icon_smile.gif
