| Time will tell from my p.o.v.
I was happy with his return to the club and the idea he'd be here for 1yr as a no2 and then take over but maybe this move is for the best all round.
Alot will depend on who his assistants turn out to be and how he handles the imminent "transitional period".
I do hope that he'll be given plenty of time to instill his own methods and ideas on the squad and he should at least be given 1 yr minimum before he's judged worthy or not.

I share your views but can you really see all our fans giving him 1 year??
If we start next season as bad as 2010 then I'm sure there will be plenty on here with the knifes out for him. Some may even start if we put on a dire performance in the Boxing Day game

A change at the top at your rim-job of a club should have happened at the end of 2009 season. Come pre-2011 season he's still there, stealing a wage. Well done.

| Pretty confident in him. Time will only tell. I think he did pretty well with what was available to him at Harlequins.
Genuine question, who else would anyone choose?

| I'm generally happy.
McDermott is a keen supporter of youth development, has the respect of the players and is as ambitious as they come. All attributes that will be valuable.
As for his track record, his is no worse than Darryl Powell's or Tony Smith's before they arrived here. Powell took his first coaching job on at Headingley whilst Smith arrived with the honour of getting a full time team promoted from a part time league. Both didn't do that badly.
At Quins, I think he has had his hands tied behind his back of late. Aside from the obvious financial issues, I imagine that it is insanely difficult to attract northern based players to move south - something that he has had to try and do with the tightening of the overseas quotas. He has obviously had his mind on his family for the past year or so - not an easy distraction to have.
I'm happy with the appointment. I certainly can't think of many suitable coaches who are better and who are available.

That's a good point to be honest, there isn't anyone i can think of really, im quite happy with his appointment, because the players speak highly of him so fingers crossed, he will prove opposition fans wrong.

| Bramley you're sounding just like all the fans who supported the early appointment of Steve McNamara at the Bulls.
There too he was trumpeted as a champion for sorting out the youth development side of things. He was good at that but it takes years to bear fruit and trouble was he wasn't much good at being a 1st team coach.
IMO McDermott is an odd choice for head coach.
