| If both are playing next week it could get pretty tasty. These two haven’t got on with each other for a while and I expect much the same come Friday.

| Interesting to see if it transcends the change of club by Gilly.

hmmmm that would require Gilmour to make a line break or more likely us not to play Smith at FB

| How has lee smith done since his return to super league ?
Only seem him the odd few times and looks to have piled the weight on and lost some pace.
He may be same weight and not lost speed but it looks that way when i have seen him.

He's certainly far from his best: he was looking ok outside Delaney, but since moving to full back I thought he would 'kick on' and claim the spot as his own (it's widely recognised it's theoretically his best position; centre DEF not so)....but there is no doubt Webb will walk straight back into his slot when he returns from injury (IMO).
He still has that "special quality" to pull something out of the bag: it's a shame he didn't grab a try last Friday evening with his amazing acrobatic attempt to put the ball down...... but he is still largely hiding his undoubted talent behind a bushel this season.

| Yes he may have put on weight and lost a smidgin of pace but its his enthusiasm that he brings to the team, as well as his ability to come up with the big play that endears him to me and the rest of the fans and dare i say the rest of the playing squad.
He seems to have being carrying a knock / injury for a few weeks now but is still prepared to do a job for us and for that you cant fault him.

| Whereas I have rational views about Smith you'll see that irrational fans do not. Smith will go steady against Gilmour as he is average too.
Unfortunately we do not have the above average Webb playing.

| It's interesting how Lee Smiths current "overweight" state is blamed on his move to Union as opposed to him being played at centre by Leeds RL last year and obviously having to bulk up to play in that role.

982.jpg [quote:1pqtnbtj]Every player in our squad could probably earn more money with another club. But they prefer to sacrifice a few extra quid in their back pocket to share special memories. And playing at a place like Old Trafford on a night like this makes it all worthwhile.[/quote:1pqtnbtj]

| Smith remains the 2nd best winger at the club (possibly third if BJB were here).
Smith remains the third best winger at the club.
Smith remains the third best centre at the club.
That said, his utility value is priceless and he does have a knack of coming up with big plays in big games.
Pace was never his asset. It's a fallacy that the lad ever had blinding pace. He didn't.

Not that's ever accuse you of contradicting yourself, but thats up there with Gotcha.

He never had brilliant pace, but always had great feet and could beat a man

Nice to see that you now agree with me that Jones-Bishop could play on the wing, although I'm not sure I'd place him above Hall and Donald in the position let alone Smith..... (just in case)

he's been injured for about a month. Not put weight on and is just as quick. Think a good rl pre season is what he needs. Smiths strongest part of his game as G1 pointed out is that he is a big game player and has the big plays in him.

| Did anyone see what happened when Gilmour knocked on just in front of the line when he should have easily scored early on?
Smith was the first person over to him, he picked him up and give him a pat on the back, Gilmour did the same and they had a little cuddle
Well done to both of them, obviously no hard feelings and they just like a bit of biff when required on the field just like Barrie & Fielden.
