Scored 26 goals last year in League One but prior to that looks to have had 9 years in and out of League 1 & 2 sides with a Showumni-esque goal scoring record. However, unlike proven Championship strikers Hooper, Hulse or Sharp he's available on a free transfer... Also looks like the move for the Hamilton lad won't materialise either.

I really hope Paynter isn't signed as Beckfords replacement and we spend some ££ on the calibre of Championship striker like Sharp or Hooper.
We needed a replacement for Kandol so hopefully that'll be Paynter and as a freebie and in those circumstances worth a gamble.

If Beckford is replaced by quality and Paynter replaces Kandol & Dickov then Paynter is a good signing, but if Paynter is Beckford's replacement that doesn't smack of ambition and looks a big risk.

This little lot sounds viable:

Connolly: Signing in the next two days medical later today.

Billy Paynter: Completed medical, should be confirmed later or tommorow.

James Mcarther: Made a 1m bid plus add ons.

John Eustace: Offer on the table

Nick Montgommery: Offer on the table

Gary Hooper: Made a 1m bid which was rejected, we are not expected to return with an increased offer

Dario Vidošić: Enquired about a possible 1m deal, told he was not for sale.

Florin Costea: Seen as beckfords replacement, club in talks over a possible 1.8m deal.

Tom Kennedy: Signing on a free transfer, coming for a medical when he returns from holiday.

Jamie Ward: Club have now withdrawn there original offer, after the player messed around with wage demands.

Simeon Jackson: Will possibly bid depending on what happens with Costea and Paynter.

Dare Vrsic: In talks about a season long loan.

Tamika Mkandawire: Considering several offers, currently on holiday.

Robert Snodgrass: Cash plus player offer rejected, the player is believed to be Nathon Tyson.

Luciano Becchio: 2 bids rejected from Reading and Norwich

Heard from a source that Norwich have put a 800k bid in for Mike Grella.

As much as I'd hope we wouldn't, I imagine we'll snap their arms off for that. If Grella can't get a game in L1 he's no chance in the Championship, despite having the potential to do very well IMO.

Looks like we'll be seeing alot more activity than I thought in the market, at least.

There were three on that list I'd never heard of so here's the low down:

Tamika Mkandawire - 27 year old centre half, played last 2 years at Orient and prior to that in League 2 and non-league with Hereford.

Tom Kennedy - Rochdale left back, 25, previously at Bury, looks to have only ever played in League 2

Florin Costea - 25 year old striker, plays in Romania and has a goal every other game for the last 3 years. Capped 6 times by Romania, no goals.
