With all the over the Storm and their fiddling the books. I get asked by non RL enthusiasts how much Super League players get paid and I am afraid to say I can never give a definitive answer (I suppose because there isn't such a thing as an average wage). There never seems to be figure discussed in the media or public domain about rugby league salaries (probably because they pale into insignificance compared to the sport played with the wrong shaped balls).

What is a likely wage for a regular 1st teamer with say the experience of JP, Senior, Sinfield Webb etc compared to that of say Burgess or younger 1st teamers?

Incidentally, I used to work for a well known telephone bank ten years ago in Leeds and James Lowes was a customer, and I knew what his monthly take home pay was (which, due to my own personal integrity I am not going to divulge!) but that was ten years ago and a lot has changed since then.

Sorry for my ramblings but I am using this as a reason to avoid work (which is not in a hell-hole called First Direct anymore).

A young player like BUrgess would possibly be on about 40-50k, the likes of JP, Sinfield would be more like 200k.

Thats all based on a rough model of salary cap spread across a squad though

Burgess is saving up most of his salary to buy an engagement ring for Brett Delaney. They are such a happy couple together!

The salary cap counts the top 25 earning players and must be within £1.6 million, the average of that is £64000. I would guess the top players will be on around £100k, cant see anyone being near £200k there would have to be some very low wages for fringe first team players.

How do you know first team squad members are above £25k?

Depends who you play for.

Leeds pay their players using the UK PAYE system and never, ever, go above the cap.

Saints pay their players using tax dodges, offshore accounts, payments in transit and image rights abuses.

Wigan pay their players a nominal salary (Amounting to £1.6m for the squad) using tax dodges, offshore accounts, payments in transit and image rights abuses plus partners/spouses are employed by third party companies on £250,000 per year salaries.
