| Playing Wigan in a Wembley Cup Final (as big underdogs) has got me all nostalgic and thinking back to the finals in the mid-ninties. Now I've been going to headingley since the mid-eighties as a kid and it got me thinking about songs/chants from yesteryear that you dont hear often.
I'm sure there has probably been a thread before on this subject but hey ho.... So, has anybody got any songs/chants that they miss from the past?
Some of my favourites were;
My only sunshine (Leeds), My only sunshine (Leeds)
The chant 'Everywhere we go' followed by the traditional 'We are Leeds' (Although this still does get done every now and then)
There was also a clapping to a rythm thing that I can remember, I did try and type it but it doesnt work....
And finally, one that I would love to see re-hashed to include a certain Wigan starlet... The old 'This old man, he told me, Shaun Edwards has got VD'....
Any other suggestions? I know 'Keep right on to the end of the road' is a favourite with many of the older generation of fans.

I know it was the club song but I've never heard it sung by Leeds fans at a rugby match if I'm being honest ..... although I've heard the players sing it on the Town Hall steps.
Do we still do 'From the green green grass of Headingley'

| "Keep Right On......." was sang by Leeds fans all in the 70's and 80's and even into the early 90's . I know I've sung it enough times. It should be sung again , along with "Green Green Grass of Headingley..." , "6 Foot 2 , Eyes Of Blue , Big John Atki's(probably Carl Ablett now) , After You , Nannanananaananana " , and others I'm sure older posters here can remember with equal affection.
Other topical songs of their time include "Hey Rock And Roll , Murphy's On The Dole" and "Video Jailed The Rugby League Star".
I'm sure these can be updated to suit todays times.
It's up to you guys.

| 'Keep right on' was sung when I started following Leeds back in the late 60's
What about 'Always look on the bright side'

Were you on your own? I've been following years throughout that timeframe and have never heard it sung by Leeds fans.
Never been much into the singing myself at games and with my voice, that's probably for the best.

I'm with you on that one, stood in the southstand from the mid to late 60s onwards and never heard it sung in there, maybe it was an old fogey north stand thing ?
I know that Gary Hetherington thinks it would be a wonderful idea for the song to ressurected as a form of pre match sing-a-long entertainment but frankly its one of his more barmy ideas, as I've said many times before, its a dirge.

| I've been in the Southstand for most games since I think the 85/86 season, and also dont recall it being sung, so I'm certain it wasnt a regular thing.
On another nostalgic note, as a kid, I loved collecting the player cards from the bobbies in the ground, this is also something I think should be re-introduced for a few benefits. Gives the kids something extra to look forward to, and with a bit of luck, might improve the kids relationships/attitudes towards the Police (Although thats probably a bit deep). But I remember as a kid, it was something I loved doing, although I was always nervous speaking to the police.
I know it has been mentioned on another thread recently, but I would love to see a 'Heritage' round of superleague - similar to the NRL. Where everything traditional is recognised, old kits, old players, old Nicknames, old traditions... etc

"Sponsored by British Gas"
I used to take a friend and his dad to the ground at that time and I didn't know but his dad (who was in his 70s then) used to queue up with all the kids in front of a copper to get his player cards for that day, he collected enough to have two complete sets at the end of the season and again without me knowing he entered his own grandson's and my eldest daughter's (who was then under 2 years old) name into the end of season British Gas draw for a kids "meet the players" evening - and yes, my daughter's name was drawn out, I took her, she hadn't a clue where she was or what was going on
Worse than that none of the players could be d either (this would be 89 or 90), they were over an hour late turning up, most of them went straight to the bar and huddled together for a couple of drinks and then cleared off to a pub somewhere while someone with a microphone tried desperately to get some of them to be interviewed by the couple of dozen "prizewinners" who were there - the only ones who spent some time with the kids were Colin Maskill and Roy Powell, the rest of them earned a fat zero on my respect-o-meter that night.

"Loiners Give us a wave, Loiners Loiners Give us a wave" - Sang to the players upon their entry to the field, home and away and they always waved.
"From the green green grass of Headingley, to the heart of Sicily
We'll sing sing sing for the Loiners, until we win the Rugby League
Ta-ra with Bradford Northern
Ta-ra with Trinity
We'll sing sing sing for the Loiners, until we win the Rugby League...
The Loiners - clap clap clap
The Loiners - clap clap clap"
"Dougie Laughton's Barmy Army (sang by one side of the crowd)
Dougie Laughton's Barmy Army (repeated by the other side)
and repeated continously, on some occasions even sang for 10 minutes.
"I sang for the Loiners when the skies turned black,
it's hard to sing with a heifer (?) on your back,
they buried my body and i thought i'd gone,
But i am a Loiner and still sang on..
Sing, Sing, Wherever you may be,
We are the Leeds RLFC,
and we'll lead you all whever you may be,
We'll lead you all to Wem-ber-lee"

There was one game at Thrum Hall (ask your parents, kids) when it just seemed to last for the whole second half. I remember other people around us asking us to stop and it just spurring us on.

Haha I can remember it being like that a few times. In the particularly poor games, sometimes even a try wouldnt interupt it. Brilliant times, even though we were massive under achievers with that team, some great days out, and some great trips to central park.
