| Sorry, but how is that classed as self defence?
He put's his hands on a guy and the guy shoves him off by pushing his head, then Slater smacks him one flat in the face. The guy isn't even looking at him.

| It's 2,40am, people are drunk, someone starts aggro with a big rugby player. Seems like natural selection in action to me.

He doesn't slap him at all, and certainly doesn't do it in the face. He shoves him in the side of the head.
It's only a few seconds long the video.

Pal, a shove, a punch, a slap whatever, you don't do that unless you're trying to cause trouble. He got what he asked for, a reaction and that reaction would have been the same from 90% of people. Maybe Slater could have been more courteous but he wasn't being aggressive. His wife went a bit over the top though, don't think she saw that video first, before tweeting, was hardly gonna kill him with the slap.

| Good on him. Don't shove someone in the head if you're not prepared for what will follow.
Just ask Stuart Fielden.

The point is it wasn't self defence. He put his hands on the bloke and turned, the bloke shoved him back on the side of the head, and gets a punch stright in his face for his troubles. The bloke wasn't even looking at him.
Had that been two blokes as normal and the police pulled that off CCTV, the guy doing what Slater did would have been classed as the agressor, and the one classed as assault.
How you get punching someone in the face as non aggressive, I have no idea.

How is Slater the aggressor? He's holding his hands out "Tommy Cooper" style trying to calm the aggressor down. This numbnuts then hits Slater in the face and then gets his 'arris handed to him. God forbid you ever get called as a witness! He's a "celeb" so it must be his fault? Utter tripe!

Well for a start, if you actually looked at the video, Slater does not get hit in the face. So right there is what makes the rest of your post complete and utter tripe.
But really I should have stopped reading your post at the Slater holding his hadns out bit, as that bit is also complete and utter tripe. They are on the guys chest.

| I think you and the guy in the video should stick to your local WMC. It's a jungle out there!

| Slater's first actions appear cordial enough.
It escalates from there as these situations have a habit of doing sometime. My only question would be was Slater's opportunistic punch disproportionate?
(If it had happened in a 2013 SL game - he'd have been off.)
