| Has anyone read it? Is it worth a read?
I've just finished Newtons book which I enjoyed, apart from how it all ended obviously.

| Shame he didn't have the cojones to name the other Leeds players taking illegal supplements but fair play to him for admitting that the original cold remedy defence when he got busted was a load of bull. Top players certainly do get looked after.

| Newtons book is a great read.
Longs is rather funny but not a great insight into the sport.
Barries is again a good read, intresting to read about his early years at wigan and breaking through to the first team
Best one i've read so far is "dont die with the music in you" Wayne bennett. If that book doesnt inspire you to do better in life theres sommat up with you!

I found it a tired collection of cliches and mantras. Well, that chapters I read before I gave up, with or without the music in me.
His 20 years a Bronco is much better, IMO.

Not just you.
The mantra appears to be that it's a Wayne Bennett book therefore it must be great.
It's tedious and probably written in half an hour as he gathered together his collection of quotations.
I gave up on it after about page 10.

| There are some good, lesser known titles still available. Terry Clawson,Roger Millward,Dean Sampson,Dean Bell,Kevin Ward. The great John Holmes and Mick Shoebottom's books are good too. Pity Ellery Hanley never did one, that would be an interesting read.

| Got Lee Crooks book [i"From Hull to Hell and back"[/i a few months ago but haven't got around to reading it yet. I'm reliably informed it's a good read though.

| I rarely read sporting autbiographies these days. They have a bad habit of just being a collection of memories of the "then I signed for [insert name of club] and then when I got there I remember [insert name of player or coach] said/did [insert vaguely amusing line or prank]. We beat [insert name of other club] in my first name. I scored a try and everything and my mum was really happy."
Sort of an extended version of "what I did in the school holidays" really. Plus, nowadays since almost everyone who has ever participated in any form of professional sport will have "written" at least one book, the competitive market creates a need to do more and more sensational kiss-and-tell rubbish about your former colleagues. Notably usually not naming the colleague involved. Raising obvious questions about whether it is, in fact, just some s**t you made up to sell books.

| Normally order the books from the library. Don't feel so bad if the book turns out to be dull
Not read any sports biography that is a patch on Lance Armstrong's 'Not about the bike'
Did enjoy Newton though, and probably more that he is no longer with us.
