Walk into the Horsforth Hotel and you can’t fail to notice the Rugby League theme that runs through the pub. Pictures of Leeds player past and present adorn the walls – there are posters advertising the Four Nations Tournament with the channel and time clearly displayed.

We got there early, grabbed a couple of meals and settled in for the duration.

So why was it that we missed the first 10 minutes of today’s England vs Oz game?

Why…????

Because they refused to change the channel from the Arsenal vs Spurs game in fear of upsetting the handful of folk still watching it. It wasn’t as if it was even a close game, Arsenal were three – nil up!!!

Why bother advertising the game in the first place when (an unadvertised) game of football takes priority?

Why profess to being a Rugby League pub at all?

Because if people are watching a sporting event and somebody comes in and asks for the channel to be changed, its a bit rude. HTH

We had the same trouble in the town hall tavern a few weeks ago, there was around 15 people in and only 1 wanted to watch Newcastle v Ipswich
It wasnt until about another 10-15 people come in to watch rugby that they decided to put it on for everyone else!!
Bearing in mind football started 10 minutes after the rugby

No but I have been in the same situation where there was 10 mins of a rugby match left to go which I was watching, and somebody came in and demand the tv be turned over for a football match.
Its rude IMO

Well then that would be rude – I’d gone to the pub to specifically watch an advertised game.

Not showing the game that they’d advertised was rude.

You have to ask "is anyone actually watching these two cockney teams playing roundball?" and the look menacing. Then tell the bar staff no one is watching the soccer, get the proper sport on.

But surely you did see it, just not the first ten mins?

No - just the Rugby.

When I asked the bar staff I was told I'd have to wait until after the football.
