| People were calling for McDermott's head mid season, and after overseeing one of the worst seasons in living memory it's not hard to see why. That said,Whatever you think of him, as far as silverware alone goes he has to be commended for the job he has done up until the end of 2015. At this point, imo at least, he should have walked away having achieved everything he could with the club and with his stock as high as it would ever likely be. Losing his right arm (Sinfield and Peacock) he should have seen the writing on the wall but decided to continue anyway which of course was his right.
Now, i also get GH backing him up to a certain point. money in the bank and all that. But there still was a point just before Segeyaro arrived when he looked like he had lost the dressing room...we were getting humiliated in a fair few games and he just looked like he wanted to go judging by his increasingly bizarre post game interviews. That was probably the point at which he should have been removed but he wasn't and saw the season out. A lot of the turn around was due to the arrival of Segeyaro, and with him all but confirming he won't be back we are back with pretty much the same squad that was getting mullered by 40 and 50 points mid season again. Granted, we will have a few players back in the fold that were missing for large chunks but the spine will be very similar as things stand and it's hard to imagine too much of a different game plan than we incorporated for much of that woeful first few months, especially if it's back to Burrow at 9 as is pretty likely.
All this taken into consideration it's hard to see us really pushing for a play off spot and if we are completely honest our squad as it stands (taking Segeyaro out) is not as good as Wigan, Cas, Hull and Warrington at least. You could possibly throw Saints in too but we'll have to see there. So if we finish below the play offs how will this sit with the fans, or more importantly GH? if we start slow and it looks like possible middle 8's again when does he pull the trigger?
Personally, i could handle middle of the table but want to see far better rugby being played, this year was total dross. Thoughts?

| I have a horrible feeling he will be given several seasons to "rebuild".
As long as people turn up and spend money GH will be happy.

| Could argue that even in the unlikely scenario we won silverware that we could still go with a fresh face. Can understand people saying maybe he should've gone at the end of 2015 but that could've been thought of as losing too much along with the 3 retirees. By the time he finished the season on the ultimate high then surely a bit too late to say he'll go and leave us looking for a replacement in October/November time.
At least the way we finished the regular season and got through the qualifiers in straightforward fashion makes those 'in the know' rumours of him losing the squad and all the squad disliking him look stupid.

| What else is there to do in his chosen career. SL coach jobs are at a premium and only a couple would possibly tempt him to move.
Can't see him going to NRL
International options are zilch.
Possibly TV punditry but Kear /Noble /wilkin plus a few others seem to have those jobs tied up.
Who on this board would walk out on a job without a career plan in place?

| Is new contract signed in August for two years, stipulates he has to win 4 in any 10 games, otherwise it can be terminated.

So he could in theory win 8 in 20, less than 50% and keep his job? for a club like Leeds that is Mental.

| A team without a soul in 2016 prior to Segs arrival....in his own words. Doesnt bode well does it?

I highly doubt it somehow. Not that it's going to happen but if we get half way through the season and we're in the bottom 4 again then there's no way he'll keep his job.

Well, if the signs are another year in the bottom half then GH needs to act asap to give any potential replacement a chance to make some player movements before all the quality options are taken. Can't let it drift on to a potential middle 8's again.
Really, Mac is all out of excuses and extra time after this year. If we don't hit the ground running then he should be moved on for everybody's sake.

I agree. It's not me saying he'll be fine as long as people are buying lots of chicken nuggets on match night.
