| Right from the start I thought the effort and enthusiasm was a notch above previous weeks. The team put in 80 minutes of real effort. However the quality and execution was absolutely dire. When things aren't going for you those 50/50s just don't happen, Mcguire's intercept in the first half, Moon's pass to Briscoe etc.
Catalans away from home with 7 out injured should have been there for the taking sadly a lack of confidence/ability Leeds couldn't get the job done. Swop Carney and Leeds win comfortably. His control of the game was difference - he threw one sublime drop off ball in the lead up the first try pure class. I think he only got tackled once in the game - when he tried to go on his own early in the second half.
On Leeds - Garbutt was superb a level above any other Leeds player. Moon showed some glimpses of quality and Hallas gave much needed energy when he came on. On the negative, Ferres if he is an international player then it is a sad reflection on the quality of the England side. On what he has shown I wouldn't be rushing to re-sign him. Falloon showed nothing to suggest GH was right and everybody else was wrong. Walters spent more time clutching thin air than he did making contact with other players. Both JJB and Delaney tried hard they look completely shot.
Where to go from here - you would expect Leeds to win the next two games after that who knows. If Leeds don't do something about the quantity of squad options and increase the quality of those options they will again struggle next season. The key players are too old and many of the youngsters aren't good enough. The bigger concern Cameron Smith apart there aren't any youngsters knocking at the door of the first team squad.
Yes it was Catalan and it was a school holiday but the size of the crowd was as small as I can remember, next week will be the same. Hopefully this if nothing else will spur GH into some serious strategic action.

| The only thing I would add to that is that Delaney was much better than tried hard. He really put his body on the line, and in the forwards, he was the only player to get close to Garbutts performance. I will be amazed if he was not top tackler last night, seemed to be in everything, and unlike JJB who also put in tackles, Delaney always seemed to be first man. Fantastic effort from the man, who like you say does look shot, but great effort.
Would also add, that the reason our defence looked betters because we went with a proper hooker. He might not be perfect, but the team is better as a result.

Fair point - one of the issues we have is none of our back rowers offer and attacking threat. Look at the better sides in SL and their back rowers aren't just solid defensively but they offer attacking options. Delaney and JJB can tackle when the players run at that but they can't keep up with a faster attacking play so you lose those option

| I'm unclear how people can write off Falloon on so little game time behind a pack that in the main gives no go forward, doesn't win collisions and can't get quick play of the balls. We looked much better with Falloon on than Hallas (though I agree young hallas didn't let anyone down). For me Falloon tackled well and looked to scoot on the rare occasions he had space.
On another note moon looked like the quality we have clearly bring missing through injuries. I found myself buying into GH's comments about having half the salary cap sat in the stand.
Garbutt was quality, Delaney is a wreck but gives everything, lilley needs to be told to kick for touch not hoof it to the fb. Though young briscoe tried hard to despite the screw up for Yaha's try.
Overall they were OK, best game in a few weeks which really shows how bad they have been.

| Where you get Falloon better than Hallas from i do not know , once again he made little impact and his losing the ball on the first tackle in the opposition 25 when we were six points up with a chance of going twelve up was unforgivable as they went straight to the other end and levelled the scores

| Thoughts on last night
1. Can't fault the effort, it is skill we are lacking, the better team won.
2. Leeds need a new prop, hooker and half back.
3. There seemed less than 14000, perhaps it's season ticket holders not turning up.

| BmD seems to turn all his back rowers into bash it up the middle props. Jjb and Delaney are wrecked, Achurch was forever injured and now Ferres is being used that way.
Hell, even Watkins and the wingers are being used that way at times.
Achurch and Ferres especially always seemed to be best when playing out wider and attacking the outside defenders ,not running into traffic.
Falloon will need time to get into the swing of things and has already been mentioned defence was better.
Just hope weget the forwards back soon, especially the props and Ward.

Did Watkins play 4 in in defense? I didn't see the match.

If your criteria for good is ball retention then we best get rid of Ferris. Halls also dropped the ball in the tackle.
Falloon filled up the middle making multiple double tackles. It's no coincidence that we conceded tries when Falloon was off.

Played 3 in I think, what with Burrow not playing.

| I didn't see the match, so won't be commenting on anyone's performance, but starting with our top try scorer and arguably best player this year on the bench was sending a strong message to anyone wanting to put in a good performance.

| Does anyone else feel as though for a captain McGuire should be leading the team around the field, but he looks about the most clueless player on the pitch and gets caught in possession far too often?
