| Just got back from a sportsmans dinner with the Schoey. He was exactly how I thought he would be bitter and have a big chip on his shoulder but pretty funny. He did however take the mick out of his coaching.
He said that when Hanley joined Leeds Wigan wanted him as part of the deal and offered him the chance to be the best played player in the world to join but he turned it down to stay at the club he loved. However he would have gone if Dougie Laughton had been honest with him and not been 'such a tool'!
Predictably he also said that there had only ever been 7 elite players for GB/England since 1982!
Himself
Andy Gregory
Martin Offiah
Ellery Hanley
Lee Crookes
Joe Lydon
There was 1 other who i forget at the moment but will remember when I hear it.
He also said that the players of his era were a lot more skillful than todays players and the aussies respected a lot of the players back then unlike now.
Very Interesting evening.

I have heard players of previous generations to Schoey who said their's was more skillful than his.

| To be fair its what every generation says as far as I can tell. It's also highly debatable and depends what you call skill.
As for his list of elite players, its nice that he included his mate Crooks, but Kevin Ward (particularly) and Andy Platt would be the pick of British props from Schofield's era.

If you think about your opening comment there you should perhaps realise why Crooks was included and players like Ward and Platt were not.

Was it David Creasser? Crooks had plenty of talent but he sticks out on that list like a sore thumb. Ward was twice the player.

| recently at a sportsmans dinner in kowloon (hong kong) with a former leeds player and he told my how schoey and several other players feined injury so they didn't have to go play wigan on a sunday "drinking" night because it would be losing pay the result a nice little 19-0 win for the loiners and £500 win bonus.

| Great story and the tale may have stood up had it not been for the fact Schofield played and even scored in that game he allegedly feigned injury in order to miss and get blathered instead.
It was on a Sunday though.

| Love him or hate him, what he says is usually right , compared to the Sky muppets,Stevo,Clarke and Hemmings.
Hoping to get along to the charity game at Eastmoor on Easter Sunday should be a great afternoon for a very worthy cause.

| I disagree too. He spouts off rubbish for the sake of trying to be controversial. Yes, he may get a few things right but he gets a hell of a lot wrong too.
Although he did retweet me a couple of months ago, so on that occasion his judgement was correct

| Just for the (useless!!) record, the try scorers in that 19-0 win at Wigan were Phil Ford 2 & John Bentley. Schoey topped it all off with a sexy drop goal! But yeah, the man is a tool!
