In this week’s damo bit I just wonder about that very question and a few others - leeds.rlfans.com/readarticle.php?article_id=1563
Now I just want to say that I appreciate everything that Gary has done for the club. But in hindsight the appointment of Brian McDermott is an odd one. Doe’s Mr Hetherington even have a plan B if Brian McDermott doesn’t work out?

| No doubt some bad/puzzling decisions have been made more recently with regards to appointing quality playing staff.
Buderus (was he the right man for the apparent planned interchange role ?), Eastwood ( why insist on somebody coming when he patently didn't want to ? ), Delaney ( long ago the enlightened could see he was not good enough for the APPOINTED role; certainly no better than the available juniors) and now, especially, Cross ( W T F ) !!
He has enjoyed some nice antipodean holidays at the club's expense....maybe it is time for him to join his good lady at Hull.
I nominate TVOC as the new Leeds CEO .... Let the good times roll

| I think you’re been very harsh on Delaney as I think this is the type of signing that we need for the club in years to come. He hasn’t performed bad in the team and he didn’t come over here with a reputation. Now there’s a big hole in that because Danny Buderus hasn’t been too bad either. But I’m sure that people can understand that their two different circumstances.
We probably needed Delaney more than Buderus.
Kylie and Scott are two other antipodeans that weren’t a big name back in the NRL but have done a fine job for Leeds. This is because they came to do the job. Danny on the other hands seems to have come to Leeds as a glamour signing to make it look like the club can sign big names

icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.:icons077e_files/5454-3678dentheman-msnicons.jpg |

| We won as many GFs after he departed as when he was here - the issue is the insistance by the powers that be that there is a corrolation between years served and ability to play to the required standard in an elite league.
On overseas players we need less but higher quality e.g. Webb and Buderus - the problem is we will not spend the required monies to achieve this, hence the reason the side has the volume of very average overseas players we have; Kylie, Delanney, Cross, Ali, Huraki.
There are two types of imports:
Ones that make a difference
Ones that make up the numbers
We need a small number of the first lot and none of the second lot.

You misunderstand. I think Buderus is fabulous skilful player and I relish him being here...but the question was over the apparent decision to complement Diskin with an interchange hooker only to go out and sign a superior 80 min hooker. Then, instead of dealing with the issue, the club insisted in trying to accomodate both players with a weekly fudge of having one on the bench thus getting the best out of neither.
Delaney I like too... for his workrate....and not before time it has being recognised that he could make a great second rower. However, the question again is he was signed as a centre. Why ? It should have been surely seen that he was no better than what we had already at the club: I maintain BJB would have covered the position better instead of being shipped out to Harlequins... and it would have freed up more quota space for a better option elsewhere (half-back cover).
Cross is the most puzzling signing of all....the club appears to have the good young home grown talent in the forwards (Ambler and Singleton). What was the point in this signing ??

I’m an absolutely terrible proof reader.
Whereas some people are more bothered about producing a perfect grammatical and spelt right article, I’d rather concentrate on good content. Thanks for the compliments and I do hope one day that through the consistent practise of writing and reading - my grammar and spelling will eventually become better one day. But it’s not a major worry ATM as long as people understand the points that I put across.

Although I agree with the basic mantra...I would contest your inclusions of Kylie and Ali ( especially ) as "average".
It is sad to see the apparent demise of Ali this season....although I do wish they would continue to utilise him as the impact player off the bench...and on the left side.

Well I must apologise on my misunderstanding and thank you for providing further clarity on what you think. I think you make some interesting points. I’d like to think that Cross came in to keep a place warm for the injured Jamie Peacock. Still a baffling decision considering the home grown talent we have in this spot as you mentioned.
In regards to Danny Buderus – I’ve enjoyed watching him at Leeds, but have felt very disheartened in how the two hookers situation was handled. This is more the coaches/managements fault rather than Matt Diskin and Danny Buderus fault.
I can’t really add anything to the Delany debate other than I agree that he was a right signing because of the reasons you’ve said. We shouldn’t just discriminate against people because there not local. However I can understand yours and many other people’s concerns on here about average Australians coming over to play for Leeds. But at the end of the day an average player is an average player wherever they come from.

Haha, well like I said, very good content. I enjoyed the one about the Saints/Leeds rivalry too. I'm just surprised people on here aren't mentioning it more often, considering that 90% of posts I read seem to be criticising other people's grammar/spelling xD

If it was my choice I’d enter people into a spelling bee contest if they that bothered about championing good spelling. Most of the world gets by fine with writing that wouldn’t be fit for the Queen to read. I think this high expectation of spelling/grammar by some people does put off other people from expressing themselves on here.
Anyhow I’m glad that you’ve liked the last two articles. I’m sure most people would agree that I’ve come a long way from writing 100 reasons why Leeds are better than saints! - Which wasn't really me anyways - I had to put myself into an Alf Garnet like mind-set.
