| Quote: on international duties "England winger Ryan Hall has been given permission by new Leeds Rhinos Head Coach Brian McDermott to return to training early at his own request.'"

Common sense like this is not often seen, so well done to both Ryan & Mac.
23 years young professional athlete, hardly played in Oz, no reason at all for him to be rested "on international duties". Well done to him for asking, and well done to the club for just doing the sensible thing and saying... "Sure!"

| What's to be congratulated for?
The lad was falling to pieces the 2nd half of last season, and was in dire need of a break.
If the medical team believe he is up to it then fair enough, they are much more wiser than any of us with regards injuries. But when the club initially say you are taking a break of this long, they do it for the right reasons, not just for the sake of it.

Gotcha - the reason we're known as Whinos.
He was off to recover from the extra games his international duties promised, but hardly played. He's 23 years old, and a professional athlete. He's keen to get back in the action, and there's no reason at all for him having to play catch up on Monday when he's sat at home this week.

My apologies I did not realise you were in the sports medical profession. I mean only someone in that role could come out with a statement of "no reason at all to be sat at home this week".
Back to the point of the thread though, what are we congratulating on again? Is it Ryan Hall under competition for his spot coming back a week early to ensure he is pushing the coaching team? Or is it McDermott for agreeing that the player does not need the length of rest that the club have previously afforded players?
Like I said previously, the medical team make the decisions I hope and they are a damn site wiser for doing it. I am sure we will not see McDermott complaining throughout the season about the amount of work players have to go through and the need for rest though.

I'm congratulating him on having the drive and determination to want to earn his wage, when he could have an extra few days sat at home on full wage enjoying the "merits" of getting picked for England.
But I'm sure you're right... there's far more negatives to be found in one of our players actually wanting to play.
O/T... Just heard some children laughing, having a good time and looking forward to Christmas! Do you want me to go tell them it's a Coca-Cola commercialisation and that they're in for a lifetime of heartbreak, misery and disappointment?

And fair enougth to that, although I feel the competition he has might be another factor.
However, your opening post said you were congratulaing McDermott also and praising his common sense, and it was that that I was questioning. Had you left it at just Ryan Hall then I could have understood the post.
So are we not congratuling McDermott now then?

| I would like to congratulate myself on opting for crumpets instead of cereal which proved to be the correct decision this morning.

| I'm with Gotcha (WTF?) on this one. Hall looked dead the second half of last season and needs all the rest he can get. What he can benefit out of 2 extra weeks of training I don't know. He may be bored at home but it's more benefitial for him to rest. He may not have played much in Australia but he will have been training everyday. That still takes a toll on the body.

Yes I am. Because in today's world there's a hell of a lot of red tape, and political correctness, and EU style "rules" that prevent bosses from doing things that would seem common sense to many.
Example; the Mrs works for a "well known supermarket" whilst she's at Uni. "Head Office says" that they're not allowed to hand out Over Time during November (fair enough, probably saving up the cash for Christmas, whatever, anyway...) a colleague asked her to work a shift for her (actually for a funeral which makes this worse IMO but the reason is irrelevant...) she wasn't allowed to work the shift for a colleague because apparently that would mean that the Mrs. was doing "overtime", even though they wouldn't be paying her colleague to work the shift. Their wage bill would've been exactly the same (thus no "overtime" paid) and they would've been helping out 2 members of staff (one who is able to attend the funeral, and one who makes a bit of extra cash). Common sense thing would've been for the manager to just say... "Yeah no probs, of course you can swap. Sorry to hear about your loved one etc etc etc". But no.
So what actually happened is the colleague phoned in sick (of course she did, she wasn't going to miss a funeral) and Morri... sorry... "well known supermarket" struggled because they were a member of staff down that night. Meaning a busy store, moaning & unsatisfied customers because they're waiting longer, the rest of the staff having to work harder to cover thus getting annoyed, so now the staff and customers are both stressed & have an unhappy shift/shopping experience, which could quite easily lose them custom if they get the whole "I'm going to Asd.. sorry... "another leading supermarket" next time after that shambles."
Do you really think that's what "Head Office" meant/wanted when they said "No Overtime during November!" No, of course it's not. Ken Morr... (Dammit)... Mr. Well Known Supermarket, would be tearing his hair out if he knew that had happened. He would've said... "Why didn't you just let her work the shift?"... "But Head Office said No Overtime, I thought I was doing the right thing?" NO! YOU IDIOT. Have a bit of common sense and use your nous you clown! Mutually beneficial agreement which costs the company nothing.
Anyway... back to the Mac thing...
Ryan wants to come back, for boredom, to keep his place, whatever. Doesn't matter.
Mac wants him back, to increase competition, not having to go over stuff twice, more team spirit, whatever. Again, doesn't matter.
Well done to Brian for just saying "Sure!" and not saying... "Rules state all internationals don't return until January so for whatever *bo[ill[/iocks* reasons you've got to sit at home until then".

| Congratulations to Brian Mac and Ryan Hall in their heroic fight against red tape and political correctness gone mad, which I sincerely hope will be replayed in due course in full on the remarkable Big Screen enhancing everyone's matchday experience.
Also, may I congratulate the remarkable Rhinos for their timely and informative diligence in furnishing me with the date of the arrival of the most remarkable Ben Cross. I haven't been able to sleep worrying about when he was going to finally arrive.

Unlucky Keith... Wasn't actually me that started the thread about Cross arriving next Wed.
Fail.

| Also...
The Rhinos players and staff are going to LGI to spread festive cheer to sick children...
rlhttps://www.therhinos.co.uk/news/15580.phprl
Anybody got a problem with that too???
Come on, you all know the lines...
"How dare they not spend every waking minute training when we didn't win the league last year!?"
"Wonder if Delaney will be as useless at passing out presents as he is passing out to the wing?!"
"How nice of Buderus to break of counting his cash to spend time with kids!"
"Keith must be having it away with a Nurse!"

| im sure its not beyond the the Leeds coaching staff to look at getting Ryan to do some training which may not be too taxing physically and will benefit him for the coming season.
In fact, for a player like Ryan, it is probably better to take a slower build up to pre-season.
