| So it is getting to that time of the year and I think that you must put the Rhinos as one of the favourites to pick up this meaningless but high-profile trinket? I also think that with the show being broadcast in the North (Sheffield), the cynic in me thinks this might up our chances of being chosen!
So whom are the Rhino's competition IYO?
England Cricket team - An ashes win but an otherwise dismal season?
Irish Rugby Union Team - Surely they would not award it to then being a non-UK team?
Who else?

| You had to spoil it didn't you. I was falling into the trap of believing it would be the Rhinos, then you ran roughshod over it with your multi multi million pound world champion high profile team!

I don't think so, they have not awarded it to a motor-racing team since the 1960's and since then other than Bob Champion and Aldaniti in 1981, it has always been a collective team of sports-people that have won the award.
Plus Jenson must be favourite to win the award out-right?

| Button or Haye for the Individual award, Jessica Ennis as an outside bet for top three as she's from Sheffield where its being held.
Brawn GP for the Team - no competition.

I wouldn't be that surprised. The Brawn GP resurrection has been one of the more interesting stories in sport this year. There aren't really any overwhelmingly strong contenders. England Women's Cricket anyone?
For the individual award Jenson has a chance, but still isn't all that popular with the wider public. Remember Lewis Hamilton didn't win it last year, albeit in the face of rather more competition being an Olympic year. Jess Ennis will be getting my vote. David Haye might have catapulted himself into contention, but he's only fought once this year, will that be enough?

| I still want Phil Taylor to get it, noone in any field has had quite a run like his. He must get some recognition sometime. Admittedly he is only playing a pub game but there again so was Hendry. Jess Ennis hasn't done bad and will get one of the awards.
I can see Brawn getting the award for team, never really thought of it until mentioned in this thread. They have come from nowhere to build a World Champ team and all propelled by British contingent. Plus BBC will be loving having formula one back with them!

Not even mentioned on the BBC site, even in the outsiders list!
The England Women's cricket team is a great call... how did I forget about them. Do we think Charlotte Edwards or Claire Taylor will make the top ten?
I think Brawn GP have had a great year BUT because they are not a collective team of sports-people (well, only two, but you know what I mean) and previous form I don't think it will be them. You thought Williams might have picked up the award in 1996 but didn't!
England Women Cricket Team have to be a good bet!
