| Just had the newsletter from GH...
Quote: "Dear Chris,
As a valued South Stand supporter, I write with an update of the work we have undertaken on the terrace, together with our plans for the future.
As you know, the terrace was closed temporarily in October whilst testing was carried out. Following the conclusion of the tests, we agreed a plan of works with the Building Control authorities to enable the terrace to remain open for the next two years. The plan included a specific schedule of maintenance to the stand as well as a cut in the capacity by 2,000 spectators, which now restricts access to certain areas.
The repair work, which ran to £250,000, was completed in time for the Rhinos’ Cravendale Festive Challenge game against Wakefield Trinity Wildcats on Boxing Day taking the terrace to its new 6,000 spectator capacity.
Our next challenge is to deliver a permanent long term replacement. This will require a significant planning application and, of course, a solution for funding for the new project. So plenty of work for our Directors, but in the meantime, we also want to gauge opinion on the preferred type of structure to replace the existing 70-year old stand.
With this in mind, it is intended to produce different designs to put before Southstanders at focus group sessions and on our website. Your feedback will be very important to us.
Thank you for your continued support and we will be back in touch throughout the year.
Yours sincerely
GARY HETHERINGTON
Chief Executive'"
So I just thought I'd do my own mini investigation...
Thoughts and comments please!!

| At the moment, the South Stand is the biggest capacity terrace in the UK and Europe, maybe the world, but correct me if i am wrong about that one.
This is a accolade on its own, so why not keep it this way and even make it a bigger terrace.
Take Liverpool FC for example, on their new ground that they are making, they are incorperating the Kop stand back into the new stadium, just making it a larger stand, because they know what the stand means to the fans.
Why can we not do this?

Because we need to cater to corporate business' and by keeping 8k (when its sorted) standing with a few K seats by building up and back would bring in more money to the club. I have no problem with people being behind me... scared they might catch you doing something you're not supposed to be

I don't think anyone is expecting it to happen any time soon or "getting carried away", it's just a general poll for interest really! Will be interesting to see what people think!
Personally, I'm of the "all standing" persuasion! Really don't like sitting at a match! Although I think that's very unlikely to happen IMO as most (if not all??) modern stadiums are all seated these days.

There's no way it's the biggest in Europe. Some German football clubs have stands that can be all seater for European games, but are easily converted to standing for normal league games. Somewhere like Dortmund will have a far bigger terrace than us.
EDIT - Dortmunds terrace actually holds rl24,454rl

| Why not have a 2 tier South Stand, with the Standing capacity remaining the same as before, and a Top tier for the UNION toff's to sit in.
Something like this, by don't quote me

| I agree with Homer. Maybe keep the standing capacity the same, but have a tier of boxes and then maybe seats above that. There doesnt need to be loads of seats, even if the second tiered seating was between 10 or 20 rows back.

Yeah I'd settle for that. As long as the standing capacity would be the same. Not sure the people in the boxes would be too happy though, right above the band etc!!

| To be honest, I reckon the club have already decided what the stand will look like, basically a clone of the Carnegie.
That's fine by me, as I quite fancy a seat in the new stand, but would also like it to keep its standing area.

Boxes would go to the back of the seating so it wouldnt be too bad for them. If they make it the same height as the Carnegie then there would be plenty of room for a good amount of seats above.

| if they did make it the same as the carniege stand, i wonder if they'd consider putting a corner section in inbetween the SS and CT

Was just thinking that myself but I suppose it depends on the size of the SS terrace. Also there would be a lot of blocked off light caused due to the filling in of the gap.
