| I believe it was around 12,000, which I believe is one of the highest gates they have had in Huddersfield since the got into Super League. Good decision by the clubs to introduce the lower prices, I feel they got more in revenue this way than if they had charged full price. Have not watched on Tivo Box yet but it must look better on TV with a decent ground than a nearly empty ground. I think this is the way forward with the challenge cup. Cut prices and market it you good crowds. I believe there were more there yesterday than the Semi Final V Wigan.
However where the Fartown supporters, is that the people of Huddersfield just cannot be bothered, if they had turned up in the same numbers you would have had a gate of around 16,000.

Which raises two points about the perceived importance of the challenge cup, points which have no relevance to whether Leeds are in or out of the competition as we raised them here two weeks ago...
1. The £8 entry (cheapest offer) price tag represents a 60% discount on what we'd consider to be a "normal" £20 entrance fee - are we suggesting therefore that had £20 been the minimum price then the crowd would have been 4520 ?
In most retail situations you heavily discount either to shift goods that you no longer wish to sell (end of line), or you have an ultimate goal of attracting and then (importantly) retaining those new customers that you've just attracted into your retail environment, which brings us neatly to point 2 ...
2. If Huddersfield are drawn at home in the next round (and I hope they are) what will the price be ?
The bar has now been lowered and the valuation of the competition set at £8, two fifths of the value of a regular SL round - only the club accountants know where the breakeven point is, whether or not enough extra bums on seats, programs and hot dogs were sold in order to make up the drastic shortfall in ticket income and whether or not the main beneficiary was the stadium management company.
Will it work again for a different team without such a large away following ?
Was any marketing directed towards those Huddersfield residents who reacted to the cheap price tag and made a rare visit to the stadium to see an excellent game played in a great atmosphere in the perfect RL spirit, will those people return again at the £20 price tag, do they know who those people are, are they reaching out to them to tempt them back ?
If not then the attendance yesterday only has relevance to yesterday and is not a triumph of marketing at all, more an admission of the true value of the competition, which is a sad statement to make.

Actually I was surprised at how many Leeds fans stayed until the end, and would even argue that Leeds fans still outnumbered Hudds fans!!
Leeds fans were chanting 'Champions' as the players went to the crowd to applaud, and clearly drowned out the celebratory chants of 'Fart Town'

What percentage of the tickets sold were at that cheapest offer price point? It would have needed to be 100% for your rough figures to equate - I'm not suggesting they're wrong for the purpose of this thread just under the impression the deal was in the form of an 'early bird' offer and some perhaps will have missed out - but not necessarily.
The last time Leeds played at Huddersfield in knock-out football was last year's semi-final V Wigan when 12,860 where there to see it. The last time Leeds played at Huddersfield while facing Huddersfield in knock-out football before yesterday was for the SL PSF fixture in 2011 when 7,872 were in attendance.
Whether yesterday equated to a financial success is doubtful but in terms of TV image I guess it looked better but it would have looked even better still had they closed the Britannia Rescue Stand (if that's the one that houses the cameras) and had the 11,389 distributed amongst the other three.
Doug Laughton once remarked that he'd have liked the TV gantry to have been sited on top of the North Stand at Headingley so that the South Stand was the one on show to the viewing public.

im not sure you did. I reckon 5,000 leeds fans so that makes 6,500 home fans.
still a great turnout from leeds fans, shame you couldn't stay til the end to applaud both teams for a fantastic game of rugby league.
as for the question where were the fartown fans, well we were there, the general public of Huddersfield have little interest in the giants so the people who did go were the fartown fans, don't forget our home crowds are around 6-7000 yours are 14-15000 so its hardly surprising that leeds had a big following.
to be fair most of your lot were sound before and after the game,i took a mate who is a football fan and he was surprised how the fans were allowed to mingle and drink together before and after the game.
but both sets of fans created a good atmosphere and fair play to everyone for that.
im not sure what the response will be regarding pricing for the next round, If a few casual fans came yesterday and enjoyed it then chances are they might come again more often, we can only wait and see.

| The point to accept with the ticket price for the Challenge cup is at what round do clubs budget to be knocked out. If they budget to get knocked out in the 3rd round and then do a low price offer for the 4th round and attract some new long term fans than this is a result, also the money from the TV revenue also makes the cut price offer more successful to the home team. I would like to see all challenge cup matches at between £ 10 to £ 15 per adult, to bring the crowds back.
We need to have stadiums that look full on the BBC in order to help attract sponsorship. The semi finals when chosen for neutral venues should be carefully chosen.

You could be one of the reasons going by your avatar, as when Huddersfield were going badly a few years back, a lot of Huddersfield rugby fans decided to watch Leeds or Bradford, and they take a lot of getting back.

Leeds have a population of 750,000 Huddersfield 150,000.
Therefore you should have 5 times our support which you do not.

Well, you'd know all about that being a Wigan fan ... It's not called the "Wigan Walk" for nothing.
You lot can disappear faster than a salted snail, as you proved yet again in the Semi Final at Huddersfield last year (to name but one)
