Superb player for Leeds, one of the greats. Leading GB to stuff Australia in Melbourne in 92 is maybe the best GB performance in my lifetime.

He was truly world class. I always remember Laurie Daly saying how highly the Aussies rated him.

Wally Lewis actually named Schoey & Ellery as being the best 2 Brits that he played against in the test matches against Australia.
I can't disagree with that, as they were both world class players, and in both hemispheres too, and they both ripped it up in the ARL competition when they played over there

So sad to hear the sad news about Garry's health issues,It certainly doesn't look very good for him in the coming years

Very sad to hear. One of the most exciting players I’ve ever seen. Just been watching all those breaks and tries he made and scored v N Zealand away when he was captain, brilliant.

I had a very brief chat with him in the summer and he seemed in pretty good form. Wish him all the best
