He sounded and looked more cheerful in the press video than for weeks and does not appear to be on the way out so would appear to have the backing of GH. Can see an issue if the new sporting director decides Smith should go and GH refuses as that would make the sporting directors position untenable if his job description includes recruitment and departures of the coaching staff and players.
Will GH want a yes man?

| I genuinely think the new Sporting Director would want to come in, have a good look at RS and work with him, and then make a call based on what they see, results etc over the next few months. That's what I'd do. GH shouldn't be making the decision on RSs future either way.
If we win the next 4 games on the bounce there will be some disappointed people on here. We should hopefully have Holroyd back in the next 2-3 rounds, and Fus can't be too far off either. The chances of those two both staying fit for the rest of the season are about zero mind you.

You are a generous and patient fellow, Jim, and that's why I like you. I think that's an extremely generous reading of the current situation though. Defeat to Cas tomorrow and I just don't think Rohan’s position is tenable any more. We should win, the players should respond, but I've said/ thought that a few times over the course of the season and been left with nothing but clumps of my own hair in my fists at the end of the game. I'm hoping my faith will be partially restored by tomorrow night, but at this point my faith in Rohan’s methods is at rock bottom.

I'd like to think the new SD will be able to put some principles and parameters in place for Smith and any subsequent coach. There needs to be a similar approach across the age grades. By all means give the coach scope to try new things but you have to be able to put the foot down and say this isn't working and change approach.
The big test will be in July, beating a few teams above us has to happen or Smith is gone.

| It’s not just results anymore with Smith. It’s the performances. They win the next 4 games, but are they bumbling through games with the same problems, it’s just that the result happens to go our way?
Or are we starting to look like a well oiled machine? The context matters, not just the results themselves.

You have hair?!?!
I am actually generous and patient my friend - but RS tenure is going to be verging on untenable if we lose - particularly if we lose badly to Cas.
Frawley needs a good game tomorrow and so does Miller.

If you came into this season expecting a top-4 year with silverware chances, well we’re just not there. Nothing you’re likely to see this year from now on is going to satisfy you, and I don’t personally think a change of coach now will get us there either.
I came in hoping for a top half finish, and therefore I’m a little more relaxed because I still think we’re a decent chance of that, we’ll see.
Next year, I’ll be totally with anyone who expects us to be a strong top 4 side, because we should have fixed the remaining holes in the squad, and the young players we have will be a year more mature/ better. I can only see us being better in 2025. In fact there are some cracking players coming through who I’m looking forward to see make first grade.
I’m not convinced about some of our approach to games either. We look a mid table side this year.

A “good” loss to Cas is a contradiction in terms. They have only beaten London, Hull and Salford so far this season. Any loss means Smith deserves to be heading for the exit. As for Frawley having a good game…….I can’t for the life of me understand how anyone could possibly imagine such an occurrence. He has nothing more to offer than we’ve already seen. What you may see is the little drop off pass routine to Cameron Smith on the 5th tackle who then runs into 3 defenders waiting for him. They are like the Leeds Rhinos version of the Chuckle Brothers. Anything other than a Rhinos victory by at least 12-15 points offers no hope whatsoever.

| There needs to be a bigger margin of a win than that.Hull with the worst attack in the league, apart from london, put 4 tries against them last week.If the coach and players have not got the message after last week they never will.
