| I doubt at this stage that anyone is likely to change their minds re: the coaching situation.
Agree on the point by Once were Loiners on optimism rather than being die-hard fans of Smith. Some of the vitriol directed at Smith isn't fair: I read one comment on YouTube suggesting that it was JJB rather than RS who was responsible for our GF run a couple of years ago.
I think the problem with the debate is that there's no direct evidence that the coach is responsible for everything going on on the field. Certainly he's not making the handling errors or penalties that are killing us every week. But it is his squad, and the lack of depth and quality in some positions is down to Smith. Smith can influence the game through messages being sent out, half-time talk, and substitutions etc.
Looking at the squad, to be honest I expected more from the forwards. Penalties and errors are killing us because the forwards seem incapable of bending the line apart from the odd carry from Oledski, 5 minutes either side of half-time by Lisone. I'm not sure any of our injured players can offer us much more in this regard. Some of the signings, e.g. Goudemand and the extension of Bentley look questionable, even though both players have been decent for us, they are not of the quality demanded at a club like Leeds. Whomever is responsible for managing the cap made a big error in not signing a durable pack leader.
The spine is mostly fine, especially if Frawley makes way for Sinfield at some point. We missed Croft and his regular try assists. Miller, sadly, is the new Konrad Hurrell - a really exciting player when the team have their tails up, but when the chips are down he's got too many errors in him (I like Miller, and hope he can improve).
The first choice backline is very decent, but on the evidence of the season so far there is a major issue with depth. Roberts is a case in point; he's our first reserve, solid defensively, offers very little in attack, and makes more errors than any other player in the team (SL website). He's still young, but as our first reserve isn't offering a great deal more than Olpherts did. Edgell may have more time but he looks too small to have any real impact with the ball in hand. Some of the others we saw in the friendlies looked more promising; I don't really understand how the pecking order for younger players coming into the team works...

| You need to underpin that brand of "eyes up / play what you see / off the cuff" rugby league with some actual structure.
You cant just lob the ball around like a grenade with zero respect for your position on the field and before earning the right to play, its moronic.
Without structure when the chips are down you can fall back onto good line speed, hard tackling and even the 5 drives and a kick to clear your lines, we dont want to do any of that, we dont want to move up and tackle, we dont want to string together sets, we just want to chuck the ball around regardless of field position real dumb rugby.
When it inevitably fails like it has done multiple times over two seasons weve nothing solid to fall back on, players get frustrated, lose concentration and start making more and more basic mistakes or even wilder risker plays to make up the shortfall. I agree theres certainly a player issue that weve had to deal with constant squad injuries and disruption that also havent helped, but the coach sets the tone and the players take the lead.

| Surely the coach should be able to coach the players to do the basics under pressure and ensure the players are fit and have the right attitude. It seems on all these fronts Smith has failed.
I agree injuries are disruptive but why do we get so many are the players fit enough to withstand the rigours of elite football? Players should be able to tackle, pass and catch - Roberts drops the high ball more than he catches it - that is a core skill coaching issue. Short drop outs - again who suggested this?
Attacking structure and attacking plays - surely that is a coaching issues - allowing the attackers to come to you - again that is a coaching decision. Yes the players should do better but the coach needs to provide a platform for that to happen.

| Quote: Shabino "There are glimpses of how Rohan wants to play, and it’s exciting. However the current bunch are not good enough to implement it. Needs at least 3 quality signings imho…..'"
Wigan's team would struggle with this God awful system Rohan 'coaches' cos it's destined to fail.

| Wigan's team might feel under more pressure if their own fans started chanting "get out of our club" and booing the players on the field?
People here who seem to think bollocking people is the way forward and getting on their back, have you seen players like Roberts and Frawley respond to this from you all?
Bevan French would probably love RS - then again Wigan have a pack who can lay a platform unlike ours at the minute.

It shouldn't matter which back position u play in, catching a ball is a basic skill that it taught at U7 level.. these guys are prodessional sports people... if u can;t catch then u practice until u can.. simple.. a bit like kicking a ball, u practice until it;s second nature.
