If we were going to sign Croft I'm sure the likes of Matt Shaw would have sniffed it out long ago. Seems like wishful thinking at this point. Despite the challenges of recruiting from the NRL we absolutely do need to make it happen. If we don’t Hetherington and Smith look like they've been sleepwalking through the recruitment cycle. I think we will, but it's just a case of who. The worry is that we end up with half back utility, the type who now play most of their rugby at hooker in the NSW Cup (Ben Hampton/ Faumano Brown) instead of real half (Wakeham, Moylan, Volkman). You can guarantee the player we do sign won't be any of those I've just mentioned, but whoever it is, we cannot afford to get it wrong this time.

So Wigan are signing Luke Thompson and Leeds have signed a 23 year old who has played 22 matches in the 2nd division. Another " project"!
Good luck to him but it's not going to get anybody excited for next year. We need first 17 starters not more squad fillers.

If the Pies do get Thompson it will be a big signing and a good news story for the game. However, just for the sake of balance I'm sure there would be a stampede of posters eager to point out that we'd splashed a four year marquee wage on a injury prone prop who's struggled to play 40 games in 4 years.
