It's his approach to tactics I don't get. Slow line speed, passive defence, little pressure on the ruck in defence, no attempt to slow the other team down too much. No territory or possession game. No pessure on the opposition. I can't believe he doesn't understand why applying pressure is so important so you've got to conclude he consciously doesn't do it.

Contrast that with Penrith Panthers for example, one of the best teams around. Panthers suffocate their opposition, like to play the game in the opponent's half, make the opponent bring the ball back from their own line. Fast line speed. And it works.

I just don't get why Smith thinks doing the opposite of this would be successful.

Yeah, we could do with a coach like that. But who? Oh, hang on. Isn't there a guy who inherited a cellar dwelling team last year and took an often depleted side on a long winning run (of effectively knock out games) all the way to the Grand Final. We should sack the current coach and get him in. Now, what was his name? Rohan something?

While I take the point on coaching, it’s not that long ago Lam was practically chased out of Wigan. He’s had 2 years to build his squad and a he’ll of a lot of investment. The players he has this year could be deemed ‘cast offs’ but they’re all players he wanted, and a vast majority of them he had last year in the championship too.

I get it’s a what have you done lately thing is coaching, but I don’t think that’s a fair comparison.

So maybe time for some quality recruitment on the playing staff instead of this constant and counterproductive sacking of sacrificial lambs, sorry coaches.

GH needs to get the cheque book out and back Smith.
Then let's see what he's capable of with his own team.
