Quote Gotcha="Gotcha"Results count for nothing win or lose. I suggest you actually look back at my posts, as you are failing to be funny here Marty. I only ever comment on performance.
I find it hard to comment since lockdown, as the game is a shambles currently. That is the game as a whole, not restricted to one club. The new rules, the guessing if a game is going ahead, the inconsistent fairness of game planning, or ability to select players. Like I said, anyone winning anything would have no more credit than a kids egg and spoon race.
You and your buddy can bull it up all you like, but it’s a poor imitation, and a slight on you that you try to make out delight in such a kick in the teeth for the game.
I will comment when and when I please though, not for the benefit of others. I am sorry my comments mean so much to you, and you miss them so much, buts that the way it is this season. It’s just a pointless year, just like your post above.'"
Mate I agree that this season is a farce.
However the real point is, what else would you have done? Cancel the whole season - well that would be breaking contractual commitments to the broadcaster, who is THE main source of funding especially now the crowds are gone. How would you pay the players? This parlous financial position is not the fault of the game, it's a global pandemic which has given a kicking to many sports/entertainment businesses, retail etc. Nobody could have foreseen it, and all that can be done is the best in the circumstances.
RL had/has no choice but to continue, limping along as best it can. We can't distribute fixtures well and fairly for external reasons: so it's the best we can do. Complaining about it is pointless.
We may still lose a couple of SL clubs before this is over, despite the attempt to carry the season forward. Even much-maligned Toronto - they would still be a club fulfilling fixtures etc. if it weren't for the outbreak.
I just cannot see the point in grinding an axe in the current situation. Yes, the game was vulnerable to this to begin with, but we are by no means the only sport suffering right now. Unless you have suggestions to change to culture of the whole country so a) we're not so obsessed with soccer and b) we don't have as much middle class nepotism supporting RU in particular, then it will remain a battle for the next however many years, at is has been for as long as I can remember,
Really all that's left is to roll up sleeves and show some grit during a tough time, as a community who values RL and what it stands for. The game will always survive as long as it has a strong and loyal support base.
