Quote: Brodie123 "It’s becoming a Joke, forget the right and wrongs of Toronto being in the Super League, it’s now clear that the owner is not going to bank roll the club this season.
What about the players and their futures, simply to make a statement like he has shows we have no idea what is happening, what about the players who have signed for him and were about to sign. If this is not the case and it is hardship then SL should be doing all they can to help this club full fill their fixtures. I have re-financed firms for years via venture capital firms and candidly I have never known such a hard time in which to raise capital, banks want security and if little or no security then no money.
There is a bigger issue here, the RFL and Super League have no idea what to do, they do not employ the right people etc, it seems they are amateurs trying to run the game.
Read the script, Players agents are ringing Up the owner saying this player wants to sign for you, that player wants to sign, of course the owner will get out the cheque book, they are queuing up to join this club, unfortunately TWP have fallen on hard times , Coronavirus has hit firms hard, They cannot fulfil the games fixtures, yet every other team is down to play their games. What about players and their mortgages etc , they have regular bills to pay
If the likes of other clubs and ourselves can play this season then for the spirit of the game and fairness to all the teams they have to face the consequences, simply letting them off and allowing them to rejoin next season in SL is not acceptable. What happens next year if this virus is still prominent , just allow them to do it again.
They need to be told if they play their games and complete this season they will be no relegation, if they simply walk away they will be relegated at least two divisions and start on minus points basis.
Whatever we think this has become a serious situation, we in danger of becoming a laughing stock, or if it’s looking bleak for a couple of other teams they could simply do the same and they will get away with it. That is why the RFL and SL must sort this out and quickly.
The RFL and SL must do all in their power to sort this out, they should have already been working with the UK government asking them for their help with VISA’s etc, if we value TWP as a team of SL then we all should help them and support them, alternately kick them out of SL.'"
Whilst I understand the anger and frustration I don't see what benefit demotions and points deductions are supposed to have. Kick a club when it's down? This is a club in the shiiiit and as people have said, individuals left in uncertain financial situations.
If TWP are expecting to start next season then there needs to be a thorough investigation into their ability to survive for at least the next ten years.
This should not be about punishment it should be about understanding if something like TWP really is achievable for our sport or whether it was just a shiny thing well sold by some sharp suits.
