I would suggest most clubs will be in real danger of going under and it will be a tough few years post Covid-19 as well.
Not to be doom and gloom but most RL sides have struggled in normal times so it's difficult to see most coming out the other side. Let's hope I am wrong.

| I think in Gary Hetherington we are lucky to have someone in charge who gets how precarious a position SL is in and won’t just spend money we cannot afford on big signings beyond our budget. I think there will be some movement especially if some of the off contract players get better offers elsewhere. Possibly from SL or possibly the NRL. One thing is certain there will be plenty of players looking for offers and most will be getting offers below their expectations. But they will probably eventually have to take what’s on offer or retire!

The best thing that ever happened to Leeds was GH walking thru the gates with Mr Caddick. Trust them completely to keep the club financially safe however i do hope they inject some cash into the company to help it through the dark times to come.

| Agreed, some out there complain about GH’s penny pinching but he and PC have steered the club through its most successful period and I for one have trust in them and whatever path they take.
GH will let Kevin get on with his job albeit within a somewhat tighter budget.y

To be fair here, I think some have a reality of the situation more than others perhaps. There is absolutely no doubt, and I challenge you to find anyone, who would argue on the job Hetherington and Caddick did for this club. It was heading for the crap heap, and needed them more than they needed us. More so what Hetherington actually brought to the whole game and super league through an extended period, is massively undervalued.
That said, you would have to be incredibly naive to actually think that Hetherington is doing the same job now, with the same forward thinking outlook that he had prior to 2015. Since then Caddick doesn't have the same holding in the club, he was paid for his holding due to wanting to sell the club in entirety at that point and Hetherington wanting to keep hold. Hetherington since then is looking at his own position first and foremost, and who can blame him. He has to protect that asset and ensure he gets the return he was hoping for when the time comes. He has lost the Union side in a complete mess. He without doubt is penny pinching now to protect his income. He is lucky that the Covid situation dictates that outlook to a degree, and rightly so, but lets not kid ourselves that Hetherington of 2020 would do the same things as Hetherington of year 2000. They are miles apart.

| It's always interesting when we, the fans, think we know what goes on in a club, let along an individual's mind.
GH has been both lauded and made a Scape goat many times over, that's just part of the role. Certainly we have suffered some lean years very recently compared to the trophies won over the last 15 years or so. The club, and by extension GH, have moved to fix this though.
We are back producing good young players and mixing them with talented home and foreign players. We have a much better balanced squad now. Yes, we are not at the level of the Mags, Sinny etc but that group were a rare group.
If this is GH protecting his own interests then I am ok with that.

What do you mean "Caddick doesn't have the same holding in the club"? He does from a factual viewpoint.

| Gotcha is bang on GH has been outstanding but lets not have that gloss over his WTF moments in recent Years one perfect example is spaffing 500k from the Rhinos coffers on a destined to fail Carnegie RU project which only ended up with a 45k return. Now i'll never claim to be a sports administrator nor a brilliant business man but NOBODY with any common sense would invest 500 quid into that RU club let alone 500k. I also question aspects of recruitment/retention he & Sinfield have come up with.

Nobody has said he was perfect. Everyone makes mistakes. Yours is a perfectly good example. Others will rightly point to bad signings. Despite that he has been a major part of the club's success. Now he is building a squad once again capable of winning a hat full of trophies mixing youth and quality signings.
I really do wonder what fans want sometimes. No club should sensibly expect to be on top all of the time. Clubs go through transitions.
