With JJB, Ablett, Singleton, Golding, Peteru and now Ferres gone, plus Myler maybe still available to move, that’s a fair chunk of cap freed up, even allowing for contracts loaded to go up this year.
I’d like to see a further four additions, Wing, Centre, Prop and Hooker.
Wing - Tom Davies on loan was doing the rounds and would probably bridge a gap nicely for us.
Centre - I’d like to see is get someone like Jake Connor who could legitimately make Hurrell and Newman fight for the start, but could also fill in at 1 or 6 if needed.
Prop - I’d rather a heavyweight ball carrier than a worker like Prior, I’d be looking to the Pacific Islanders.
Hooker - Leeming is the name linked recently, I’d take that, gives Johnson a year to progress with less pressure.

Because it’s a team sport. Let me ask you this. Do you think Merrin is three times better, three tones more use to the team than Martin, or Ava?
Because that’s what the disparity in salaries is. How would it make you feel if this was your workplace? Happy and settled?
We achieved so much success by building from within and being a real team. Top players were payed more for sure, but not the huge inequity we see now........

I think you have very much a lack of understanding of what the Marquee route means to be honest. It isn't just you, but you are certainly highlighting your lack of knowledge on it. People make too much of it, and in your case then make it personal to the player. It really isn't a big thing. All it is, is that you are allowed to nominate two players as Marquee, and those two players are where the dispensation on the cap paid counts. It does not mean that those players are necessarily on more than others, and certainly not to the degree of various multiples of salary as you have alluded to.

My point is irrelevant anyway as we have gone down this route with Marquee players. Guess we just have to get behind whatever team lines up now. Surely can’t be any worse than last two years!

P.s I mean no respect to Merrin or Hurrell who are both very good players. I just feel we could have spent the cap, and extra money paid to marquee players better, maybe on transfer fees.....

Precisely and I could be wrong but nominating Merrin and Hurrell as Marquee layers last doesn't necessarily mean they are Marquee players for the length of their contracts, for instance we could sign 2 other Marquee players for next season and just not nominate Merrin and Hurrell as the marquee players.

Yes you are wrong on that. Completely wrong. You’d have to drastically reduce their salary to do that, and breach their contract!

No you wouldn’t. You can nominate whoever you like each season, this is only about how much counts against the cap, not what the player gets paid...

You are still assuming that a Marquee nominated player is the highest paid and that is not necessarily the case!
The Marquee rule was introduced in 2016 so I fail to see the relevance of being a “follower since early 90,s”

I’m actually astounded by the level of understanding on here about how the Marquee rule works in reality. I’m on a hiding to nothing here so will agree to abide by general consensus. I was equally shocked when we got rid of Brian Mac like we did, but I don’t have the time to articulate all my points and it seems it’s all very much lost in translation ! Lol.
