I think too much has been made of this telling players they can leave. I doubt very much they would have spoken direct with the players unless it was a given. More likley they would have raised it with the agent, to give him the opportunity to explore other options, and hence why certain players say they know nothing about it.

Totally agree, blown out of proportion by the papers.

Most players will have been available in the right circumstances given last season. That's a very different thing to the list of players that were publicised being specifically told to take a walk.
